Moving into a house with five other girls can be quite scary when you first think about it, but if you're ever given the opportunity to live with a bunch of people in college, go for it! When I first moved into the house, I didn't know what to expect. I was excited, scared, nervous and ready all at the same time. I was moving into a house with some girls that I knew well and some I didn't know that well. However, in the end, I was thankful for that experience because it gave me some of the best friends that I have currently. I'm not sure what I would do without them now. You might be close with your housemates if some of these events take place regularly in your house! Some of them may seem silly and child-like, but they all bring so much joy to a house in their own way!
1. Singing duets together is crucial.
You could be in the car, cleaning the kitchen or even in the shower, but if a housemate walks by and you're jamming to their favorite song, they'll help you with the duet. Bonding is made when people sing together, and singing with your housemates is crucial sign that you and your housemates may be on the verge of becoming too close!
2. My closet is your closet.
You don't even have to ask to borrow her jacket anymore, you just do. She knows that you'll return it, and if you don't she assumes that she is able to borrow yours. With living with five girls, I learned that closets expand! So if you live with many housemates, know that clothes are going to get switched around and borrowed, but that's OK!
3. You always have a grocery shopping buddy.
No matter what time of day you're going shopping, someone is always down to go with you! When I lived in my apartment there were a lot of steps to walk up, so always having someone to help me carry groceries up the steps was very much appreciated.
4. You don't even knock on doors.
At the beginning of the year, you knocked on your housemates' doors, but after the first couple of weeks, no one even bothered. It didn't matter if you were changing, doing homework or on the phone with your family.
5. Pranks will be pulled.
When I lived in my apartment with all of my housemates, we once got into a squirt gun fight, cake fight and so many other things. No one has hard feelings because what goes around comes around when it came to pranks. If you pranked someone, you knew you were about to get pranked, and that was part of the fun!
6. Nothing is kept a secret.
You know you're really close with your housemates when nothing is too personal. You could be talking about something really deep or about what you had for breakfast, but you tell your housemates everything. And no one judges. They may make jokes, but no one will judge you, because they love you!
7. You share food.
You share milk, cheese, bread and anything else! However, there are certain foods you know not to touch and that's OK, too!
8. Family meetings are a regular thing.
Even if no one is doing anything wrong, you still like to get together on a regular basis. Going out to the movies, shopping, cooking together, whatever it is, you do it as a group, and no one gets left out of all the fun!
9. Personal space isn't a thing.
If one of your housemates is having a bad day, the rest of you will barge into their room and make it their goal to cheer them up! Sometimes just time with your girls is all you need to feel better! Don't be surprised if you're invaded with a hug before you even walk through the door.
10. Rivalries.
Just like siblings, housemates will have rivalries. Everyone has that one sibling they just bicker with all the time. Well, when living with other girls, I learned that housemate rivalries will exist. That's OK, because you usually fight with the people that you're closest to.
11. You've met everyone's family.
You've met their immediate family, and their non-immediate family. You know about that cousin they can't stand. You've heard all the embarrassing stories about their siblings. You've heard about all the horrible family vacations. You know about that weird aunt. You know everything and still, their family is your family.
12. You've been to their house.
On breaks or the weekend, at least once, you've made that long trip to your housemates house. You've come to love it, and you go as much as you can! And sometimes, their parents even invite you over before they do!
13. You have inside jokes that nobody understands.
When you live with five other females, you stay up late and things get crazy because everyone is super tired. However, this is when all the best inside jokes happen. When you try to tell everyone else about why it's funny, they don't get it, but it doesn't matter because you have each other. And you think your group is hilarious.
14. If someone messes with you they mess with all of you.
If someone's causing you trouble, if causes all of your housemates trouble. It's OK when you pick on your housemates, but when someone else does it they'll be hearing from one of you! They don't like it if someone is giving you a hard time! They have your back. One housemate doesn't like to see another one fall.
15. Being too close is the best!
Even though you may fight like sisters, it doesn't matter because the bond between all of you is inseparable. You've had fights, you've cried, you've loved, you've laughed and you've learned through each other. You wouldn't change your living situation for the world. It's been the best time of your life.
