Here is a few signs that will consider if you are southwest Virginian....
1. You get this question a lot, "Why is Virginia for lovers?"
Frankly, I have no idea why.
2. There is a big difference between Southwest Virginia and Northern Virginia (NOVA).
Plain and simple.
3. We like our sweet tea, REAL sweet.
I am talking about dang on sweet!
4. "Y'all," "Ain't," and "Reckon'," is definitely a part of our vocabulary.
Us southerns, probably use one of these words in every other sentence.
5. People not from Virginia will tell you that you have an accent.
And you will think that they are crazy and have no idea what they are talking about.
6. Being from Southwest Virginia, you ARE a mountain person.
There is mountains every where and you can't help but fall in love.
7. Apparently, if you're a Virginian, everyone thinks you can't drive correctly/good.
And I beg to differ. Because I think I am an excellent driver!
8. We have a lot of old fashion sayings:
1. "Slow as molasses."
2. "Bless your heart."
3. "It's blowin' up a storm."
4. "Over yonder."
5. "If the creek don't rise."
6. "Hold your horses."
Should I go on?
9. Cows and Horses as neighbors?
Yeah, that is normal.
10. You know what the "Monticello" is.
Growing up in Virginia, you had at least gone to one field trip to Monticello in grade school, which was Thomas Jefferson's plantation.
11. In most areas, everyone knows everyone.
It is a small world after all.
12. We sure do LOVE our biscuits and gravy!
I am talking about made from scratch y'all.
13. Sometimes our weather is bi-polar.
One day it will be sunny and 65 degrees then the next day it is 30 degrees and snowing.
14. Us Southwest Virginians, love our blue grass and country music!!
Fun fact, Virginia is part of the, "The Crooked Road, Virginia's Heritage Music Trail."
15. We LOVE being Southwest Virginians.
We wouldn't have it any other way, that is for sure! Maybe that is why "Virginia is forLovers."
I LOVE being a Southwest Virginian and I wouldn't have it any other way. Growing up in this part of Virginia, made me and you who we are today.
