Ever since I was small, I began to notice that I felt different from everyone else. My interests developed as the years went by and as that occurred, I started to realize a fact about myself:
I was not born in this generation.
Being an “old soul” has been something I’ve embraced with happiness for a long time now. I enjoy that feeling of being different from our modern society’s standards. I enjoy the yearning to go back in time to these desired time periods. I enjoy my wild imagination-taking course, making me the unique individual that I am. With all of that said, I also have friends that are old souls like myself.
The following list is dedicated to all of the old souls out there:
1. You deeply value connections with others.
You value family relationships and friendships a lot more than others might. You do not take these people for granted.
2. You are not materialistic.
You aren’t freaking out over the newest smartphone that comes out. Rather, you might be reading a book.
3. Everyone comes to you for advice.
You’re very supportive and empathetic with everyone that you meet. You are a helpful friend for anyone who needs assistance.
4. You appreciate antiques of all kinds.
Antique shops are absolute heaven to old souls.
5. You don’t fit in modern day society (in a good way).
You have your own standards that you live by. You might not fit into society’s puzzle, but you are creating your own masterpiece.
6. People view you as very mature for your age.
A lot of people have probably addressed that to you in some shape or form. They see you acting with grace and maturity at an early age.
7. You need a time traveling machine for all of the places you wish to visit.
Where’s a DeLorean when you need one?
Or a Tardis?
8. Your music taste is infinite.
When people ask me what type of music I listen to, I just laugh and say: “A vast array of genres. I can go from Frank Sinatra to Demi Lovato in a snap.”
9. You have a deeper appreciation for older literature of all kinds.
Is it just me or do you also appreciate that “old book smell”?
10. You have older-style clothing in your wardrobe: and you rock it.
A-line dresses are my favorite.
11. Missing some “old time ways”.
Hand-written letters, baseball games like in the film The Sandlot, drive-in movies: the list can go on.
12. You’re always in “big band singer” mode.
I don’t know about you, but I break out into song and dance every single day.
13. Watching older films at addicting rates.
I almost forgot what it was like to see everything in color again after watching so many black and white films.
14. You enjoy + appreciate older “Mom & Pop” style diners.
There’s nothing like diner food.
15. Not a day goes by that you are not applying your old soul behavior.
It’s an everyday affair.
Stay classy and swinging, my old souls!
