Ever since the first book was printed in 1454 on the Gutenberg printing press, there has been a market for printed books. Some people do not appreciate the perks of leisurely reading, but fortunately, others recognize the value of reading. If you happen to be one of these people, you know who you are.
Not that you really need any confirmation, but here are 15 ways that confirm your status as an avid reader:
1. You have a strong opinion about bookmarks vs. dog-earing pages.
Dog-earing just gives the book more character. A shabby book is a loved book.
2. You have a list of books to read in the future.
And yet here you are, re-reading Harry Potter for the 75th time.
3. Your bookshelf is organized in a very specific way.
Color coded, organized by size, placed in alphabetic order by title or author; the possibilities are endless.
4. You have a few favorites that you always fall back on.
For me, it’s anything by Jane Austen.
5. You have a flawless argument for or against Kindles and e-readers.
E-readers don’t give you the book smell. You need the book smell.
6. You either hate or adore "Wuthering Heights."
There’s no in between.
7. You never had any trouble getting the required reading done in high school.
But there is that one exception that you just can’t stand (for me, it’s "Animal Farm").
8. You have designed the perfect reading nook in your mind.
Or on a Pinterest board.
9. You live for comparing books to their movie adaptations.
“Did you know that Tyrion is actually supposed to have two different colored eyes?”
10. You’re constantly telling yourself the “one more chapter” lie.
It gets real when it’s 4 a.m. and you have class at 8 a.m. the next day.
11. You have turned down more than one party invitation in order to stay home and read.
What are you supposed to just not find out what happens next?
12. You often adopt the speech patterns of the characters in the book you’re currently reading.
It’s unintentional and terrible, but it just can’t be helped.
13. You love thunderstorms because they are obviously the best reading weather.
It is an unexplainable, but a completely valid phenomenon.
14. You’re constantly badgering your friends to read your latest obsession.
Sometimes it’s nice to have someone to share your pain with.
