"Titanic" made its big screen debut in 1997. From then on, it has rested in the hearts of countless people around the world, myself included. This movie is more than a depiction of a horrific historical event -- it is a love story with a tragic ending and feminist ideals threading its way through, and it is a teacher in every sense of the word. This movie is timeless and here are the reasons why.
1. Jack Dawson. That’s all.
Need I explain why he is the one we all keep coming back to?
2. The Romance
It's a love story. At its very core, Jack and Rose are two people falling in love. Their relationship is full of magic. How could that get old?
3. Rose
She's flawless.
4. Rose's Hair
Somebody magically make my hair look like that. Or maybe just make me look like Kate Winslet. I'm totally fine with either option.
5. Rose's Internal Struggle
We've all experienced a time in our lives when we felt like we had no control over what came next. Rose's struggle is so relatable it makes me love her character even more.
6. Defeat of the "Bad Guy"
We all wanted to see Rose leave Cal. He stands for everything you shouldn't be. Controlling, abusive, cocky...I could go on and on. You go, girl.
7. The Third Class Party![]()
Too many times I have danced to the music and wistfully imagined dancing with Jack.8. Kathy Bates
Seeing the famed Kathy Bates as Molly Brown is certainly a reason to come back again and again. Her sass is incomparable.
9. First Class Jack
Jack's transformation from a third class lad to a first class man. *Swoon*
10. The Music
11. You Love Them All.
12. "I'll never let go."
I'm not getting into the debate of whether or not both of them could've fit on the door. I'm just going to appreciate the devotion in this moment. (They couldn't fit, she would've saved him if she could.)
13. My Heart Aches
The raw emotion throughout the entire film. This movie is showing a disaster. The heartache I feel every time I watch this movie is gut-wrenching. Every time I watch this movie I have to prepare myself to sob, but that's also what keeps me coming back for more. It's real.
14. "You're still my best girl, Cora."
*Silently sobs to myself.*
15. The Drawing
"Draw me like one of your French girls."
16. It Makes Me Laugh
I can't help but laugh when the two of them lose it.
17. The Sinking
From the moment the ship begins to sink you are on the edge of your seat, even if you've seen the movie a thousand times like I have. When the ship splits in half so does your heart.
18. The History
Rose and Jack live on.
