People often describe the one they love as their "other half." Personally, my other half is someone so intricately woven into the fabric of who I am that if my other half and I were forced apart from one another, I would lose an enormous piece of myself. My identity would become incomplete. Fortunately, my other half is, quite literally, myself.
If I allowed another individual to become so integral to my identity, I would be doing myself a great disservice. I do not need someone else to complete me. Who would I be standing alone, if I suddenly lost the relationship I had with a person who defines my existence? I refuse to only be half the person I currently am without that somebody in my life. I want to remain my whole self.
These were my thoughts as I arrived at an important realization: being single is freeing and awesome. If you still disagree, I can probably convince you with these additional benefits to your newfound independence.
1. You avoid that difficult process of picking out an outfit for a date.
2. You quickly decide what is for dinner, without the long discussions or compromises.
3. Prospective men might be creeped out by that Pinterest board anyways -- the one you use to plan every detail of your dream wedding.
5. You learn to appreciate your true friends, who will never stop caring about you.
6. You also discover how lucky you are to have a pet, who loves you unconditionally.
7. You know how to enjoy your life, without depending on others.
8 When it comes to picking out jewelry, no one knows your tastes better than you do.
9. You will be 100 percent available when your celebrity crush starts expressing interest in you. It will be any day now.
10. Tonight, no man can keep you from rocking those six-inch platform heels, just because he is insecure about his height.
11. You can rest assured knowing that there is no new guy for your friends to thoroughly stalk on social media.
12. Now you have more time and energy to focus on school and work.
13. You do not have to worry about your significant other getting jealous of your platonic relationships with the opposite gender.
14. You have more time to spend with your family and friends.
15. Sharing a tub of Ben & Jerry’s with your best friend has never been more satisfying.
