College is a time of change. In high school what you see if usually what you get but not in college. There are people trying to completely change who they are. There are people who probably should change who they are. Then there are people who you just can’t quite figure out who they are. And suddenly all these people are living in one place, together. You have classes with them, you eat with them and you might even sleep in the same room as them. Some are good and some are bad but at the end of the day you’ll probably become friends with them.

1. Mama’s Boy

You know the guy who has never touched a washing machine and whose mom makes sure he always has more than enough money in his bank account.

2. The Foreigner

They live in America now but they weren’t born here and they're still adjusting to American culture, but you are so thankful to learn about their culture as well.

3. The Spoiled Princess

Similar to mama’s boy, but she also thinks the world revolves around her and does not feel the need to learn how to survive on her own.

4. The Alcoholic

No one knows when they started drinking, you just know that they haven’t stopped since you met them.

5. The Homebody

They live on campus Monday through Friday, but pack their car every weekend to go back home.

6. The Badass

You know the person who terrified you in high school? That person is somehow less scary in college.

7. The Flirt

They are always talking to someone, no matter when or where.

8. The Hipster

Their style is amazing although you struggle with their music.

9. Jesus Freak

JC is their #1 and they will let you know.

10. The Partier

Every weekend you know exactly what thy are up to.

11. The Potential Drop Out

You’ve never seen them pick up their backpack and it’s possible they haven’t been to class in a week.

12. The Stoner

Have you ever had a sober conversation with this person? Not sure. But at least their tapestry is cool.

13. The Try Hard

Yep they’re the person in the library all night. You want to be them but at the same time you don’t. You’re not to sure if it’s worth it.

14. The Mom/ Dad

They are always prepared. They are also always telling you how to improve yourself.

15. The Overachiever

Different from the try hard. This person does it all. They have great grades, a good social life and are involved in everything on campus. You’re not sure how they do it, you just observe them from afar.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating.
