Walks of New York

If you were a theatre geek in high school, or just have an appreciation for the theatre, then you probably understand that amazing feeling of going to a LIVE show. It starts with buying your tickets, counting down the days till, and walking into that theatre with an overall feeling of excitement and high energy. You sit down and wait patiently for the music to begin. It's all part of the magic of theatre, and more specifically Broadway; where new stars and stories are born.

Every year, the Tony Awards celebrate the finest achievements in the world of theatre. The Tony Awards premiered in 1947 and the Broadway community has embraced it ever since. The following list includes the Tony Award Winning Best Musicals from the past 16 years. Add these to your list of "Shows to See"!

1. Contact (2000) is a Three Act sequence full of dance and stories that express human emotional and relationships. Act one tells the story of two men competing for one woman. Act two is about a woman who is trying to escape an abusive marriage, and Act three tells the story of a lonely man who is trying to find the courage to speak to this beautiful girl in the yellow dress.

2. The Producers (2001) is a classic based on Mel Gibson's 1968 film. The musical tells the story of two men who produce a show, and one running off with all it's earnings.

4. Hairspray (2003) is the classic story of a girl reaching for her dreams of being on television. She approaches personal challenges, love, and a bigger dream for the history of television. If you've seen the movie, you should definitely see the show.

5. Avenue Q (2004) uses puppets to tell the story of living (and loving) in New York City. It is known for its adult humor and storyline. Be prepared for crude humor and potentially awkward situations depending on who you are seeing this show with. It's hilarious.

6. Spamalot (2005) is based on the film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"...enough said.

7. Jersey Boys (2006) tells the story of the rock n' roll quartet, The Four Seasons. The music is phenomenal.

9. In The Heights (2008) takes place in Manhattan and tells the story of a store owner as he sees his community go through the highs and lows of life.

10. Billy Elliot: The Musical (2009) is a powerful musical story of a boy who just wants to dance. His father on the other hand, does not.

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
