So as 2015 came to a close and we rang in 2016, it's more than obvious there have been some box office busters this past year! Whether it was comedy, horror, or action-adventure, the following movies have been acclaimed as box office smash hits! They are in no particular order and I may not have seen some of them; but let’s agree to disagree that 2015 rocked the movie world!
1. "Furious 7"
OK, so even if you had not watched the previous movies within the "Fast and Furious" movie series, this was certainly a tear-jerker. Having not seen any of the other movies, I was skeptical about seeing this. I have to say at the end of the movie, I was crying. It was truly a great movie and such a heartwarming tribute to Paul Walker.
2. "The Hunger Games - Mockingjay: Part 2"
The ever so popular book series comes to an end in this movie trilogy. With intense drama, violence and action this movie came in on top of the box office charts with $52 million in revenue. What a wonderful way to conclude a series?
3. "Creed"
-All of the Rocky fans need to unite on this one! A smashing hit for sure. This drama extends the Rocky series even more when Sylvester Stallone’s character (Rocky Balboa), comes across his former rival’s (Apollo Creed) son, Adonis.
4. "Inside Out"
While a funny, animated Disney-Pixar movie, this film was all encompassing for vast age groups. While this movie is geared towards families and children, it’s an awesome resource to teach about human emotions in a cute and fun way. "Inside Out" topped the box office charts with $356.4 million in revenue.
5. "The Good Dinosaur"
This animated Disney-Pixar film raked in $39.2 million in revenue. with epic graphics and a wonderful storyline, "The Good Dinosaur" exemplifies what the world would be like if the asteroid hadn’t hit planet Earth and killed off the dinosaur population.
6. "The Night Before"
The comedy film joins comedic geniuses for an epically funny movie that will leave your stomach hurting from laughter! These childhood friends come together to pull shenanigans every Christmas Eve.
7. "The Peanuts Movie"
This classic tale has gained almost $10 million in the box office thus far! Congrats to Charlie Brown and friends on the 3D movie debut that will have everyone feeling nostalgic.
8. "The Martian"
The novel-turned-film adaptation chronicles the journey of an astronaut trying to come home even after everyone thinks he has perished!
9. "Brooklyn"
This dramatic tale shows the trials and tribulations of an Irish immigrant coming to America through Ellis Island. A truly heartwarming story about the life of an Irish girl-turned-Brooklyn resident.
10. "Black Mass"
The drama film uses a true story to intensify the action and allies of the FBI and Italian mob located in 1970s Boston.
11. "Minions"
This animated film is a belly buster for people of all ages! A cute and charismatic story brings everyone together at the big screen. "Minions" successfully raked in over $335.8 million in the box office and of course, sparked many Halloween costumes!
12. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"
This movie is a classic, something people have been waiting for. People even bought tickets ahead of time! The seventh installment of excitement!
13. "Jurassic World"
The next installment to Spielberg’s series brings an action-packed thriller in a modern sense. Congrats on the $652.2 million box office success!
14. "The Avengers: Age of Ultron"
This sequel brought in $459 million to the box office and is an action, adventure and sci-fi film all in one to tie together the biggest superheroes in history.
15. "The Visit"
This horror flick combines mystery and comedy that brought in $65 million at the box office while telling the tale of siblings who encounter strange experiences at their grandparents’ home during one of their “visits."
