College is all about making choices. From the good, the bad, and the ugly- life has to keep on goin’. Those choices you regret and wonder if you’re the only one? You’re not. From sending questionable messages, to procrastinating, to eating junk food always- here is a list of all of the mistakes that are OK (and I mean OK!) to make while you’re in college. We have all done most-if not all- of these so you’re in god company.
- It’s OK to…Not listen to your friends when they say he’s a bad guy: We all do it and become stronger for it. You have to learn by making the mistake even when someone who has already made the mistake tells you that you are walking into a mistake. Learning by experience is sometimes the only way.
- It’s OK to…occasionally put off something that is due until the morning it is due: This won’t fly in the work place. You actually have real responsibilities and deadlines that are really important.
- It’s OK to… go just a smidge too hard: This is the only time in your life that you have friends that will take you straight back home and laugh about it in the morning. Those messages you sent? I am sure the person you sent them to has done some very similar work as well. Don’t feel embarrassed. It’s a marathon not a sprint.
- It’s OK to…Spend too much time looking at Instagram when you have work: You just convince yourself it is a five-minute break. Next thing you know you are stalking a friends ex-boyfriend’s best friend- and those hours of work you have? Still there.
- It’s OK to…Eat far too much: Sometimes it feels like maybe that last Cheeto may make it seem like the work you have is gone. Go ahead. My step mom once cursed the man that made a serving size for Oreos- serving sizes are just suggestions.
- It’s OK to…Stay up too late for no reason: Nothing quite like waking up drowsy and realizing you had no business staying up to talk about crushes until 3AM the night before.
- It’s OK to…Have way too many crushes that you like to talk about too much: Like I said above- crushes change every week, for any reason whatsoever. I spent a lot of fall break trying to find my friends new crushes like teenagers at sleepovers.
- It’s OK to…Go to class in the most nappy clothes you own: Those grey sweatpants that should never see the light of day? Sometimes getting to class is hard and you’re just giving it your best effort and that’s all you got.
- It’s OK to…Not do your laundry often enough: In work places, unfortunately, you have to either look nice or not wear dirty clothes. Both of those options require doing laundry with relative frequency, and that is time that we simply do not have in college. Embrace it.
- It’s OK to…Wake up your roommate when you come back late: We really should be more considerate once we grow up- but sometimes they need to know about how that boy held eye contact with you in the library or how you got a free coffee because the machine broke or how you found out an interesting new development about the boy in your biology class or when you fell down the stairs on the way up to the room and now need a band aid. Sorry to you bud- I wake you up a lot, much love.
- It’s OK to…Not always have your ducks in a row: As my sophomore year has dawned- I have realized that I don’t know what I want to study or do with my life or what internship to get this summer or what clothes you wear to an interview on campus. And that is ok.
- It’s OK to…Spend your money irresponsibly sometimes: I bought a birthday present for myself the other day. Three weeks before my birthday…
- It’s OK to… Get in trouble with an RA once or twice: The music was too loud. It’s not the end of the world. You’re not a bad kid now. You are no delinquent. Learn from it.
- It’s OK to… Not remember everyone’s name: That guy that lived down the hall from you freshman year’s best friend? Who knows. I have also waved at so many people thinking I know them and I simply don’t. You just have to commit.
- It’s OK to… Make so many mistakes over and over before you learn from them: College is confusing and it is easy to make a mistake once and return back to that mistake a thousand and a half times before you are finally done. Keep trying until something works, none of us are perfect.
