Ah summer, a time to work 40-plus hours, sit around the fire, gaze at the night sky-- and have parties every weekend! Now, when I say parties I don't mean college parties, but family celebrations. Everyone decides to take advantage of the incredibly short Wisconsin summer, and from Memorial Day to Labor Day, it is party season. Graduations, baptisms, first communions, birthdays, weddings, and everything in between. No RSVP needed, just put on your tacones or botas and cumbia the night away.

Cumbia Tribal to Kick-off the Fiesta

Now some might think I'm biased that I say the party starts when the tribal starts playing, but it is that Monterrey pride.

1. "Intentalo" - 3BallMTY

2. "Cumbia Tribalera" - El Pelon del Mikrophone

3. "Bailan Soleteros y Solteras" - DJ Notamix

This tune has become an absolute need at parties, don't know what to do? Just jump in place and lift your hands in the air. Because this one is for the single people out there!

Cumbia Con Acordeón

4. "Cumbia Poder"- Celso Piña

5. "Cumbia Sampuesana"- Ancieto Molina

6. "Cumbia del Rio" - Celso Piña

Oh, is there a shoutout for Monterrey? I didn't notice...

Cumbia Norteña-- For Those From the North

7. "Mira Oye" - Los Tigrillos

8. "El Botecito" - Los Hijos del Pueblo

You probably thought I was kidding when I said that you needed to shake what your momma gave you-- yeah, I wasn't.

9. "Cumbia Con la Luna" - Control

Look at those cuties! Shake it mijo, shake it!

Cumbia Tejana-- For Those From Texas

10. "Sabes a Chocolate" - Kumbia Kings

11. "Como La Flor" - Selena

12. "Baila Esta Cumbia" - Selena & A.B. Quintanilla

A beautiful homage to the Queen of Tex-Mex, Selena.

Cumbia for Those They Call "Chilangos"

13. "Que Calor" - Supermeka2

Now, the place where the party is being held might have air conditioning, but with all the raza on the dance floor, it gets hot!

14. "Yo Soy Tu Maestro" - Los Telez

15. "Tienes Espinas de Rosal" - Grupo Cañaveral

Honorable Mentions

* "Me Voy a Ir"- Jenny and the Mexicats

* "Bailen Rochas y Chetas" - Nene Malo

* "Que Nadie Sepa Mi Sufrir" - La Sonora Dinamita

* "Uptown Funk" - Cumbia Drive

You now have quince cumbias to shake, spin, and groove to. Don't know how to dance cumbia? There are plenty of Youtube videos to show you, but the best way? Have someone teach it to you! Don't have someone you say? Reach out to me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
