14 Things I Want My Sister To Know

Sisters are a pain in the butt and a blessing in disguise. I remember so desperately wanting a little sister but when I eventually got one, I wanted to return her; she wasn’t the doll I wanted to dress up (no one wants a doll that cries that much). Being the older and wiser sister, I feel as if it’s my responsibility to share some nuggets of sisterly wisdom, so here we go.

I’m sorry for teasing you when you were a kid.

I instantly felt bad after, but then you had to go and tell mom. Why would you do that?

Being weird is OK.

You’re arguably the weirdest person I know, but I love you because of your weirdness.

Stop eating all of the mac and cheese.

Why didn’t you save me any?

The last Coke wasn’t for you.

Obviously, I was saving it for me.

I’m not that cool.

I know you think so sometimes, but I’m actually probably a lot weirder than you are.

No one can come between us.

Boys and friends will come and go, but you’re my sister forever.

You annoy me to no end.

You know exactly how to push my buttons. Sometimes I think you like to bug me. But fun fact: I know how to push yours.

Seriously, stop eating the mac and cheese.

I mean it.

Always laugh more than necessary.

What’s the fun in never laughing?

Be better than me.

I know you compare yourself to and want to be like me at times (Mom and Dad told me, don’t worry), but be better than me. You already are, but soon you will see that too.

I’m sorry for rigging every game we played as a kid to make it so I would win and then claiming you had cheated.

Yeah... that happened.

I’m sorry for eating fries out the bag on the way home and giving you the one with less.

I’m actually not, I just feels like this needs to be said.

I’ll love you forever.

Through fights and laughs, you’re my sister. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

No matter how much I complain about you, I’m glad you’re my sister. End of story.

Being a sister, no matter how frustrating it can be, has been some of the most fun. And through it all, I have found someone I know will be there for me forever, basically because she is forced to. So, hey, sis, you’re with me forever. Oh, stop cringing. You know you love me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
