13 Things To Thank Your 'Home' Group Chat For

I’m sorry for having you guys on “Do Not Disturb,” but I love you all and I am so happy to have you all in my life. Whether you want to know if your outfit is too much for a frat party or whether you miss fries from Bella’s Burgers, these are the people that get it.

1. Thank you for helping me choose an outfit.

Guaranteed if you look through my group chat’s photos, you would see a multitude of pictures of us pre-makeup, pre-hair making weird poses in the mirror trying to figure out what to wear.

2. Thank you for choosing every single one of my Instagrams, captions, and filters… And then thanks for liking them.

Yeah, without you guys, my Insta-game would be pretty lacking. After you choose my outfit from the night before, I can always count on you to also tell me which picture actually looks good of me. I can always count on honest advice when it comes to the drunk pictures I took, but can’t tell if it's artsy or just blurry.

3. Thank you for understanding my random cravings of all the food no one else can understand.

If I had a dollar for every time I said my favorite food is a Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese and got confused responses, I could probably buy a lifetime supply of Taylor Ham and have it shipped down to Florida. Also, no one can relate to all your morning-after-a-wild-night O'Bagel stories. Or about Wawa… how do people NOT know what Wawa is?!

4. Thank you for making coming home bearable.

As much as I miss my family, it’s you guys that make my time at home worthwhile. Not only do we catch up on college gossip, but we make wild memories. No one at school truly understands how crazy you are as much as your friends from home do. Also, when I come home I appreciate all the wine nights in and the “house parties” we don’t get to go to at school.

5. Thank you for keeping me sane when I just can’t take being at school.

You guys are my lifeline. Whether my roommate is driving me insane in our tiny 2-by-4 room, or a frat guy is sending me mixed signals, I can always rely on my group chat to dissect any and every detail of my problem. Or give me insane ideas as to how I should go about dealing with my problem. As much as I love my college friends, I know that our group chat will always be my safe piece of home I can always rely on.

6. Thank you for helping me at 2 am when my ex-boyfriends want to let me know that they “miss me” or “made a mistake.”

By no means ever should you deal with ex-drama on your own. But these are the ride or die people that went through those relationships with you. No explanation necessary. They have your back no matter how badly you want to backslide into that toxic relationship.

7. Thank you for giving me someone to text when I pass by the cute boy in my Bio class or when I don’t want to deal with an awkward interaction with the boy on the floor below me.

I don’t know what I would say to that guy I have been avoiding since first semester without this group chat because whenever I see him you guys are the people I turn to look like I am very busy in an in-depth conversation, but really we are probably talking about one of the Kardashians.

8. Thank you for reading all my screenshotted conversations.

Whether I can’t stand the girl from down the hall, or the guy I have been talking to is sending me mixed signals, I know you guys are the ones to dissect the true meaning, or to tell me I am overreacting. Also, thanks for helping construct the best responses to people.

9. Thank you for answering my 911 text to get me out of a bad date.

I don’t know if it’s just my groupchat, but we can always count on getting out of a bad date by a call from one of our girlfriends from home “crying about a guy” or something to excuse us from the treacherous date.

10. Thank you for listening to all my bad decisions and equally sharing your bad decisions.

Whether I want to know if I should jump into a pool at a roof top club, or whether you want to know if you should put a red sock in your roommate’s laundry, I know that you guys will support all the bad things I want to do.

11. Thank you for also making my tedious decisions.

“What should I eat” and “should I take a nap instead of going to class” may seem like easy questions, but having that many decisions on a daily basis definitely requires others’ vote. Or whether you should ask the guy in the same business frat as you for his number.

12. Thank you for making me feel better me feel better about my weekend shenanigans.

If anyone could read my group chat on a Sunday morning… But I can always count on a few other stories and also the reassuring “everyone else was probably just as drunk.”

13. Thank you for preparing for college with me.

I wish I could have brought each and every one of you to college with me, but I don’t think any college would keep us. Regardless, wherever you guys are, I love you so much. All the experiences we have shared definitely help me every day. Being so far away can definitely be intimidating, but knowing that all my people are just a text away definitely makes me feel like I’m home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
