14 Things That Happen When You Leave College For The Summer

Ah, summer break. After grueling hours of studying or finishing the last of your papers, you have twelve open weeks filled with relaxing (or more realistically, working or completing an internship, but we can pretend). Here are 14 things that happen when you leave college for the summer and go back home:

1. Leaving college and being like...

"Thanks for the memories of the cramming for exams, pulling all-nighters, and taking that one awful class! I'm done! SEE YOU NEVER!"

2. But as you drive away with your car stuffed full, you're honestly more like...

"I'll miss living with all my friends, late night pizza, Wine Wednesdays, and having the freedom to do whatever I please..."

3. Yeah. You miss it already.

You can't help but feel a little sad as you drive away from your home away from home.

4. But then you get to your real home and you're a new kind of excited.

Your pet is home! Your bed! A fridge full of food!

5. You put off your unpacking.

Partially because you're in denial that you're living here all summer, partially because finals have taken a lot out of you and you're tired of working, partially because you're just lazy.

6. You need to go out and eat at all of your favorite restaurants.

You've been craving that one type of food since the last time you were home and it's too good to believe that you can eat here all summer.

7. You probably just lay in bed for a while, vegetating and watching Netflix.

You just finished a hard semester. You deserve this.

8. You feel like you have work to do...

but then you realize that the semester is over and you don't have to worry about APA formatting, multiple-choice exams, or pretending you read that one book ever again.

9. You see all of your home friends.

You all come back together after being away at college, catch up, and better yet, it's like no time at all has passed.

10. You hang out with your family.

You'd never admit it, but you missed them at college.Whether it's Mom's home-cooked meals or Dad's corny jokes, you're happy to have them around.

11. You start planning all the fun vacations, the road trips, and adventures you want to take...

and suddenly, your summer isn't looking so wide open anymore.

12. You realize something sad about your "break" time...

Chances are, you're probably working, interning, volunteering, studying for the GRE/LSAT/Praxis/MCAT, looking into graduate schools, or doing something else productive. You remember the days when all you had to do was sit on the couch, go to the pool, and eat popsicles.

13. You spend all day texting your school friends.

"I miss you guys so much! Who is going to get midnight McDonalds with me now?"

14. But then you realize that summer break is open of the nicest things.

You may already be looking forward to next school year, but you're happy to be home for the summer.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
