Believe it or not, being a mixed-race person is very challenging. It's even more so when you live surrounded by people who like to put everyone else into categories. When you don't fit any of those categories, people get confused and say things that they probably should not. For example, here are things that mixed-race people hate hearing:

1. "What Are You?"

Not rude like you are, that's for sure.

2. "No, Like Where Are You From?"

Born in Wisconsin, raised in Florida. Good answer?

3. "I Mean, Like, Where Are Your Parents From?"

My goodness, you're not going to give up, are you? My mom is from Chile and my dad is from the U.S. I'm not answering any more questions.

4. "Where's Chilly?"

First of all, that's not how it's pronounced, and second, look at a map. Hint: it's in South America.

5. "Oh, So You're Spanish?"

I mean, since the Spanish did colonize most of South America, most of us do have some Spanish blood in us, but I am not Spanish. Spain and South America are very different places, FYI.

6. "Why Don't You Speak [Insert Language Here]?"

Hmmm, let me think. Maybe because the United States doesn't encourage learning languages while we are still young and able to retain information, and maybe because my parents didn't teach me so my life could be easier?

7. "You're So Exotic!"

Is that supposed to be a compliment? All I heard was "you're so different-looking than people like me."

8. "Your Babies Would Be So Beautiful!"

First off, who's saying that I'm going to have kids? Not everyone wants kids. Second, yes, of course they're going to be beautiful. They're going to be my kids!

9. "I've Always Wanted to Date Someone Who's [Insert Race Here]"

Good for you? Again, why are you telling me this?

10."It Must Have Been So Hard For You as a Kid"

Of course, because being a kid is hard enough already. People like you didn't make it any easier.

11. "How Did Your Parents Even Meet?"

There's such thing as traveling and moving to a country that you're not from.

12. "Which Side Do You Identify More With?"

Please don't even get me started on this. I'm a whole person, not one half.

13. "Mixed People Are The Future!"

Yeah, because everyone is pure-blooded. We already exist. Now what exactly are you trying to say?

14. "I Want To Have Mixed Babies!"

Look, fetishization of mixed-race people isn't cool at all. Love is love. If you really loved someone, you wouldn't only want them for the color of their skin. Mixed-race children are not some hot accessory to carry around, they are not a tool to use for any social/political statements you want to make. If you only want them because it makes you look 'cultured' and 'cool,' you might want to rethink your decision.
