You meet a lot of interesting people in college. Lucky for me, I found some great ones. I know being my friend is no easy feat so I figured I’d send a few over-do thank yous their way.
1. Thank you for “Family Movie Night."
This one is also a “you're welcome” and “I told you so”. I lovingly forced movie night upon my group of friends this past year. No matter how many excuses they came up with I would squeeze 10 of my best friends into my tiny dorm room to watch some weird movie on Netflix. We would fight over who got to sit where and everyone would talk over the movie. At least four people would want to hit each other but hey, we were all annoyed together. And that’s what matters. So, you’re welcome.
2. Thank you for swiping for me.
This is one of the biggest things you need to love your college friends for. Whether it was for food or to get into your building (but especially that magical food swipe), I love you. You are beautiful people for this.
3. Thank you for going to get food with me.
Even when you didn’t really want to, that “Ugh fine whatever, let’s go” always made my day. And it was even better when you combined this one with #2.
4. Thank you for always having my back.
My freshman year was a roller-coaster. I think everyone’s is to some extent. I went through a lot that I didn’t expect, but I always could count on my friends. You guys never let things get too bad for me. Thank - you for the late night Facetime chats (even though we lived within 200 feet of each other) and the heart to hearts while laying in bed.
5. Thank you for keeping me humble.
I’m a pretty easy person to make fun of (oh, and you’re all really mean). Luckily, I find you mean and hilarious. Thank - you for knocking me down a peg or two and bruising my ego “with love”.
6. Thank you for letting me use your printers.
My printer hated me so I’m glad you welcomed me with open arms when I had to sprint to your building at 1 AM to get something printed for class. Especially, when you would pause your stupid video games to help me figure out how to work yours.
7. Thank you for the nicknames.
I hope you screenshot this one because I will never say it again. Ever. And no, “Cornucopia” is not a good contact name. I honestly can’t even say half of the names you’ve given me but they kept us laughing so thank - you. Long live Cornabeth.
8. Thank you for always having an opinion on the guys I introduce to you.
Not once have you failed to tell me how you feel about a boy I was interested in. And you always ended up being right. And you’re welcome for bringing home less-than-great guys because they are now the butt of your jokes and gave us some pretty entertaining memories.
9. Thank you for parking my car.
I can’t parallel park. Enough said. Thank - you.
10. Thank you for loving me in my good times and bad.
Including when I tried to dye my hair and it came out orange. Thank - you for still going out into public with me (even if you did walk a few feet ahead of me).
11. Thank you for never failing to remind me of all the embarrassing things I did the night before.
I didn’t really want to remember those things, but thanks for the memories... I guess.
12. Thank you for indulging in my weird obsessions (and letting me into yours).
Popsicles, Wal-Mart runs, Cookout, Lost, and Dunkin Donuts…thank you for supporting my addictions. I do not, however, support nor understand yours.
13. The Group Chat.
Granted, I was the one who made it and yes you all fought it for a long time but deep down I know you all love it. And even if you don’t, I do! There’s nothing like a Group Chat full of people trying to figure out which character from The Office we’re most alike to get you through a rough day at work. Now quit changing the name of it from “Family” to various inappropriate phrases.
14. Thank you for putting up with me.
Lastly but certainly not least, thank - you for dealing with me. I know I am not the easiest person to be a friend to and I mess up quite a bit, but thank - you for still being there.
As cliché as it is, I could not have done my freshman year without you. Well, maybe I could but it would have involved a lot more breakdowns. So, thank - you for all of these things and everything in between.
