What is the night shift? As a person who has had many a summer job in their day, ranging from childcare to retail, I am here to tell you that the best way—in fact the only way—to work a job (especially in the summer) is to work during the Night Shift. Beginning a job, just as the rest of the world is winding down, is definitely a unique experience that everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. Read these 14 reasons why the night shift is the only shift, and let them convince you to sign up for closing time, you know, those dawn-breaking hours.

1. Dealing with the public. When working during the day versus at night, night people have more fun.

2. Having the day to do as you please. Working at night means the day is free for whatever.

3. Being more productive with your time. You can't let your night hours dictate your life. Two words: Time Management.

4. Driving to and from your job is a breeze because there is absolutely no one around! Rush hour traffic? That doesn't exist.

5. You don't have to rush to get work done because there are usually no customers around.

6. The night shift means no sun, no sweat. When you live in the south or anywhere hot, that is an amazing thing.

7. When you work in retail, the night shift means first dibs on cool new stuff.

8. For some jobs, working the night shift means more pay than those who work the same job during the day.

9. People who work the night shift are not as stressed out as those with the traditional 9-5.

10. Working the night shift can give you a new appreciation for sleep.

11. Driving at night is awesome. Working the night shift means you can learn new routes and shortcuts.

12. For some jobs, working the night shift means you get to see the sunrise.

13. Wildlife looks so much cooler at night than during the day; another advantage of working the night shift.

14. The word breakfast has way more meaning if you work the night shift. Your dinner = everyone else's breakfast.
