"Guys and girls can't be just friends." Blah. Blah. Blah. Wrong. Society has this stereotype that guys are girls are physically incapable of being just friends. As if we can't control ourselves and are automatically going to start making out because the sexual tension is just too much to handle. Wrong. Most of the time, my guy friends are like my brothers: protective, caring and never afraid to make a sassy/rude remark.
They for sure will tell me when that certain dress isn't flattering for my body type, the shade of lipstick is too dark and when it seems like I'm trying too hard. However, they're the first one to step in when a guy is getting too handsy, my world is falling apart and when it's dark out and I'm afraid to walk home alone.
I'm thankful for the guy friends in my life who have clearly earned the title of close friends. There's a million reasons why I'm thankful for my guy friends, but I included the top ones for your viewing pleasure.
1. They're blunt.
They don't care if they hurt your feelings. The truth is the truth and they think you should hear it.
2. They're protective.
You learn pretty early on that they won't let anyone mess with you.
3. They're drama-free.
Guys are low maintenance. They rarely have drama to bombard you with.
4. They're good at spotting the bad guys.
They're really good at spotting a low-life jerk when you start talking to them.
5. They're always willing to go to your formal and date parties.
They take the pressure off, smile for the pictures and dance like they're having a good time.
6. They're always willing to eat with you.
Forget the salad. Pass the fries, bro. They won't judge you either.
7. They motivate you to actually work out.
Do you even lift, bro?
8. They give fantastic advice.
They have a different perspective and are good at talking you through situations.
9. They're always willing to act as a stand-in boyfriend.
When that creepy guy at the party starts chatting you up, leave it to your guy friends to put their arm around your shoulder, call you babe and make the weirdo go away.
10. They keep it real.
You can be in sweatpants, a sweatshirt and ball cap with no makeup and they probably won't notice either way so it doesn't matter.
11. They always make you feel better about yourself.
They know when you're feeling self-conscious and always subtly make you feel more confident.
12. They're stable.
They always make you feel less insane and help when you're having a mental breakdown.
13. They're always there.
Breakup? Failed test? Fight with your roommates? They got your back.
14. Boy advice.
They know exactly what the boy you're texting is thinking. Just like you know exactly what the girl he's seeing wants. It's a double-win for both of you.
Like I said, there are a million and one things I could thank my guy friends for, but the list would take forever. I'm so lucky and so blessed to have guys in my life who are "extra" brothers. Thanks for keeping me sane and keeping my life interesting. Sorry you have to deal with my dramatic, embarrassing self.
