If you're like me, then you've seen every episode of How I Met Your Mother. More than once. And if you've really been paying attention to those episodes than you know there is a lot that can be learned from our Upper West Side friends.

From season one, episode one, to the the series finale (season 9, episode 24, the 208th episode), these five characters gave subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) lessons on life, love, friendship and happiness.

1) Sometimes it's okay to listen to the same song over, and over, and over again.

2) Nothing good happens after 2 a.m. (thanks Mrs. Mosby).

3) Life isn't always easy.

4) And when life isn't easy, remember to just be awesome.

5) You WILL have crazy people in your life.

6) Everyone has a doppelgänger.

7) Nicknames are an essential part of life.

8) "A girl is allowed to be crazy as long as she is equally hot", aka the hot/crazy scale.

9) Sometimes you can make up your own rules.

10) Beware of crazy eyes.

11) Dress well, do well.

12) Don't be afraid to take chances.

13) Surround yourself with people who have your best interests in mind.

14) Life doesn't amount to much without your best friends.
