The Huntley Bookstore is great for picking up school supplies, CMS merchandise, textbooks, and even ramen. Since coming to Scripps, it’s also been a place I go when I need makeup and beauty products. It might not seem like the obvious choice when online shopping is an option, but I’ve been able to pick up some great items which fit my budget and are all cruelty free. Here are my favorites:
1. Burt’s Bees Lip Balm ($3.29)
This beeswax lip balm is a classic and an absolute must-have. I am always carrying at least one, and often times am armed with a backup. It’s 100 percent natural with a subtle peppermint flavor and no tint, so it’s perfect for everyday use. Aside from beeswax, the Huntley also carries the revitalizing, honey, soothing, ultra conditioning, refreshing, rejuvenating, nourishing, replenishing, and island variations.
2. e.l.f. Shimmer Eyeliner Pencil in Iconic Ivory ($1.00)
This has been my go-to white liner for years. White liner is great to apply to your water line, since the white color makes your eyes pop more. This liner in particular is great since it comes with a built in sharpener, is only $1, and has a bit of shimmer to accentuate the eye even more. Aside from iconic ivory, the Huntley also carries this liner in the colors Black Bandit and Twinkle Teal.
3. Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick ($7.99)
This is an amazing all-natural product with a tea tree leaf oil base which helps clear up skin in no time! It also has willow bark extract to help exfoliate the skin. Put it on after washing your face at night and it works wonders.
4. e.l.f. Expert Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black ($2.00)
I love using this eyeliner whenever I want a winged look. It goes on very smoothly, has a strong color, and though it doesn’t seem like a lot of product, a little goes a long way.
5. e.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen ($3.00) & e.l.f. Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths ($3.00)
I’m grouping these two products together since they perform the same function: makeup removal. I also definitely recommend getting them as a pair. The cleansing cloths are great for getting all of your makeup off at the end of the day, whereas the remover pen is best when used to correct little errors like smudging your eyeliner or mascara.
6. Burt’s Bees Body Lotion ($7.99)
This lotion is absolutely amazing for softening dry skin, as it smooths well, but doesn’t leave you feeling too slimy like some lotions do. It has a nice subtle scent, and comes in either milk & honey (for normal to dry skin) or aloe & buttermilk (for sensitive skin).
7. e.l.f. Concealer ($3.00)
I recently switched over to this concealer after I got tired of paying $20 each for the Urban Decay Concealer Pencil. Like the UD pencil, this is also a cream concealer which makes it easy to blend. This concealer sometimes requires an extra coat for full coverage, but it does a pretty good job at hiding blemishes.
8. Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm ($6.99)
While similar to the aforementioned Burt’s Bees Lip Balm, its counterpart provides a bit of color to your lips while still doing an amazing job at preventing chapping. The Huntley carries Honeysuckle, Caramel Daisy, Blush Orchid, Petunia, Pink Blossom, Hibiscus, Rose, Red Dahlia, and Sweet Violet -- almost all of the entire color availability.
9. e.l.f. Face Primer ($6.00)
e.l.f. has a wide range of liquid face primers based upon different skin types and what your skin needs. The Huntley carries mineral infused, tone-adjusting (my personal go-to), poreless, and hydrating, all of which are liquid primers and can be easily applied.
10. e.l.f. Matte Lip Color ($3.00)
I often like to go with a matte lip, and I’ve found that when paired with the e.l.f. Lip Primer & Plumper (see number 13) this often does the trick. Its one drawback is that it requires a few coats in order to get to the advertised color, but this also gives the option of using the lip color to achieve a subtler look. In addition to my favorite rich red, the Huntley also carries natural, tea rose, praline, and wine.
11. Burt’s Bees Peppermint & Rosemary Body Wash ($7.99)
This is an amazing body wash which cleans well and smells fantastic. I actually didn’t use this before shopping at the Huntley, but I figured I’d give it a try and I’m so glad I did. While some body washes end up drying out your skin, this leaves it soft. The blend of the scents of peppermint and rosemary are naturally very soothing, so you come out of the shower smelling great and feeling relaxed.
12. e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator ($3.00)
Applied like lipstick, this tool does an amazing job at removing chapped skin and smoothing lips. The mixture of shea butter with avocado, grape, and jojoba oil not only nourishes your lips, but also has a fantastic scent. After you’re done using it, it comes off very easily by wiping your lips with a damp cotton pad.
13. e.l.f. Lip Primer & Plumper ($3.00)
This two-in-one product is a great way to enhance the look of your lips. The primer will make your lip color stay on all day, and the plumper can be used either alone or with the primer to give your lips a bit of a boost. The plumper has a cinnamon scent to it, which I’m not normally a big fan of, but in this case it is pretty faint.
14. e.l.f. Shine Eraser Oil Blotting Sheets ($1.00)
These small sheets offer an easy way to remove excess oil from your face so that you look less shiny. The textured surface and green tea extract helps keep your skin healthy and works to eliminate blemishes. Each pack contains 50 sheets, so even though it costs only a dollar, you’re still getting a great deal.
Next time you're in need of some new makeup, stop by the Huntley and check out e.l.f. and Burt's Bees. Not only are these products amazing and available just a walk down the street, but they're also cruelty-free.
