As nice as it is to have 20/20 vision, some of us can’t experience that without an expensive piece of glass and plastic (or metal) sitting on our faces. Whether they’re for reading, distance, or just because you can’t see anything at all, owning and wearing glasses come with a long list of struggles. If you wear them all day every day, only in class, or when you’re too tired to put in contacts, you’re still likely to run into these problems anyway. Granted, they’re definitely first world problems, but they’re problems nonetheless that we have to deal with until we are emotionally and financially ready for laser eye surgery.
1. The Nicknames People give you
“Four-eyes” may be the most popular, but the less creative tend to stick to “nerd”
2. Trying to wear sunglasses
If you leave on your normal glasses, you can’t see because of the sun, but if you put on sunglasses, you just can’t see at all!
3. Trying to find them in the morning
This would be so much easier to find if you could actually see what you’re looking for.
4. People asking to wear them
Please don’t break them!! Or touch the glass!! Please!!!
5. And clearly not understanding how the prescription works
No, that’s not how I see things without glasses. That’s also not how I see things with glasses. Everyone’s eyes are different.
6. Wearing them after meeting someone for the first time without wearing them
“Oh my gosh! You wear glasses??”
7. Trying to recognize people when you aren’t wearing them
That person walking toward you is either your best friend or a total stranger. You should probably just wait and see if they say hi to you first.
8. Smudging the lenses
I promise, nothing you’re wearing is soft enough to clean it either
9. Trying to put on eye makeup
I really hope this looks good when I put my glasses on. Boys are so lucky they don’t have to deal with this…
10. Falling asleep with them on and hoping they won’t be crushed when you wake up
Because you know you can’t afford a new pair right now
11. Breaking them anyway and having to deal with it until your new pair comes in
That’s okay, I didn’t need to see this week anyway
12. “How many fingers am I holding up?”
Hmmm… 3? 7? 14? It might be blurry but I can still make out shapes!
13. Drinking a hot drink and having the lenses fog up
Totally unnecessary14. The same goes for taking a bite of steaming hot food
I just want to eat in peace! Many of us have a love/hate relationship with our glasses. Some are counting down the days until they can get their eyes fixed by a doctor, while others feel that their glasses are an important part of their identity. They can be annoying as hell, but in the end they look great and they definitely serve a purpose. Plus, nothing feels better than taking off your glasses at the end of a long day and giving your eyes a rest.
