Even though this album might be "so yesterday," that doesn't mean it is out of style.

The year is 2005. The movie "Sky High" is all the rage for young kids. "Grey's Anatomy" is in its first season. Brad Pitt has just divorced Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie. The decade is halfway over and there is one clear pop icon for children and tweens alike. That icon is the one and only Hilary Duff.

Best known for her role as Lizzie McGuire in the Disney Channel show of the same name, Hilary was destined to be more than just a Disney starlet. And in 2005 she attempted to prove that to the world. On August 10th, she released her first compilation album "Most Wanted" and her name went down in history. Well, perhaps infamy is a better word. In a review on the website allmusic.com, Thomas Erlewine said, "While this isn't a terrible album by any means, it's not particularly a good one." BBC wrote, "...her voice has neither the spunk of Lindsay Lohan nor the power of Kelly Clarkson ."

However, to myself and many other teeny boppers out there, this album was exemplary. And now, 12 years later I gave it another listen and have decided that "Most Wanted" is still as spectacular as I remember. Now, including the deluxe bonus tracks, here are 13.5 reasons to listen to this 2005 classic.

1. Wake Up

As an eight-year-old, I definitely was not putting my makeup on a Saturday night, but that never stopped me from screaming those lyrics. This song is perfect for dancing around in your underwear or getting dressed for a party. It's super catchy and upbeat and probably could still be popular if re-introduced today.

2. The Getaway

This song is the perfect example of a well-executed metaphor. The comparison of sitting in the car weaves throughout the entire song with gems like, "The traffic in my brain's driving me insane" and "Cause every time I think you're gone you show up in my rearview mirror." This song is #relatable and perfect to scream at the top of your lungs.

3. Beat of My Heart

Possibly my favorite songs on the album, "Beat of my heart" is extremely repetitive but so damn catchy you don't even care. It's easy to learn all the words and not hard at all to sing along to. Plus it has that "making a comeback" kind of feel to it.
I'm up from my down.
I turn it around.
I'm making it back,
I'm not gonna drown

4. Come Clean (2005 remix)

While originally released on Hilary's second studio album "Metamorphosis" in 2003, the remix is even better than the original. With a sort of EDM feel, paralleled only by Cascada's 2007 hit "Everytime We Touch", this song can get you moving while also being a vocal dream. The song is also featured in the 2004 trailer for Hilary's movie "A Cinderella Story" which you can watch here .

5. Mr. James Dean

This song has a more rock 'n' roll vibe than the rest of the album. Hilary sings just a bit louder and a bit stronger. Although in 2005 I had certainly never heard of James Dean before, it's still apparent how impassioned she is by the idea of him.

For reference, here's a picture of Dean before he tragically died in 1955. The Harry Styles of his day to put it lightly,

6. So Yesterday

This song is the perfect post-breakup jam. It's all about not being defined by your past and just pushing on into the future. I pity the poor sucker whom she wrote this song about because he probably was pretty upset that he let her get away after hearing this.

7. Metamorphosis

Another example of Duff's amazing use of metaphor. She starts as a cocoon. She blossoms into a beautiful butterfly. It is the ultimate transformation story that everyone can relate to. While the audio is not my favorite of the album, I can really appreciate the lyrics.

8. Rock This World (2005 remix)

Another one of the album's more rocking songs, this one features lyrics like, "I don't want to save the day I just want to get my way." This song is all about seizing what you want and not letting people define you. Hilary stands up as an independent woman who doesn't need anyone to help her shake up the world. If you're feeling weak or small, listen to this and let it pump you up.

9. Break My Heart

For anyone who has ever had their heart broken before, in this jam Hilary dares you to break her heart again. It's not exactly my favorite and I wish that it resolved with her finding confidence from within, but that's okay. Sometimes we feel weak and that's just a part of life.

10. Fly

This song is most well known from the devastating movie starring Hilary "Raise Your Voice". Any early 2000s kid knows that this movie really messed you up when a few scenes into the movie Terri (Duff) loses her older brother in a car accident. With her brother goes all her desire to sing and the movie is about overcoming adversity. All those emotions can clearly be heard in this song and it is one of her most powerful to date.

11. Girl Can Rock

Get your girlfriends together and pump up this jam. "And if I make you nervous, you'd better step aside." Similar to "Rock This World," this song is all about not letting anything stop you from getting what you want. The instrumentals are super strong in this hit and call for some serious air guitar.

12. Our Lips Are Sealed

Featuring another talented member of the Duff family, Haylie, this duet is an anthem. Although not an original song, this cover of The Go-Go's 1981 hit proves that some themes are timeless and being a true friend and sister is one of them.

13. Why Not (2005 remix)

This version is a little different than the version that is featured in the iconic 2003 movie "The Lizzie McGuire Movie." The lyrics are slightly different for example in the 2003 version the lyric says, "You're acting like you just don't care when life can be so sweet." Whereas in the 2005 slightly edgier version it reads, "You're makin' like I turn you off when I know you think I'm sweet." Regardless, this song is an absolute bop no matter which version you listen to. It'll bring you right back to your childhood.

13.5. I Am

This hidden track comes if you wait through the awkwardly long silence after "Why Not." Not sure why they are included on the same song, but it is a cool song either way. "Sometimes I'm a million colors, sometimes I'm black and white." Essentially, this song is about being human and how it is complicated sometimes and how we feel different emotions at times. It's a song to cheer you up when you're feeling down.

So there you have it. Thanks Hilary for bringing your music into the world. 12 years later and your songs still have a place in my heart.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
