Too many dark eyed faces spend mornings in regret after losing to their willpower and continuously pressing “next episode” of another must see series. Netflix is no longer a streaming website or a leisure activity but a lifestyle. It takes up hours of the day, and night, and leaves you with nothing but strained eyes and no sleep.
It’s hard, I know, but don’t let Netflix consume your time.
Here are 10 ways you can change up your routine making your life a bit more interesting and eyes a bit healthier.
1. Mini Road Trip
2. Concert/festival
Sometimes concerts can be extremely expensive, but it does not always have to be about where you’re sitting. Find a venue and buy the last tickets you could get, anything just to get in. Make it about the music, the memories, and the faces around you. It doesn’t always have to be about meeting the performer. Make it a night to remember with your friends.3. Movie night with friends
Even though you’re still watching a screen, this is not your typical “in bed, surrounded by loads of food” scene. Get some friends (or family), a couple snacks, some blankets and put on a movie – classic or contemporary!
4. Picnic / Stargazing
If you find yourself wanting to spend a morning or day binge watching Netflix shows, think twice. Instead you can try putting together a fruit salad, finger sandwiches, the biggest bar of chocolate you can find and go outside to a nice field or garden to have a picnic. If it is already dark outside definitely try stargazing. All you need is a blanket and if wanted, binoculars to look into a canvas of glowing stars on a dark sky.
5. Read
Sunny outside, real poolside. Raining, stay in by the window. Brisk and cold, read by the fire. Seriously, you can read wherever you choose, so grab a book, magazine, blog, etc. and read. Not for a class, not for a quiz, just for fun.
6. Yoga
Do it for flexibility. Do it for strength. Do it for peace of mind. Do it for the picture (of course, once you have accomplished it). Yoga is an amazing way to take a couple minutes to just have to yourself. Just play some music in the background and stretch it out. I promise within one week you’ll actually feel so much better.
7. Hiking
Instead of spending hours watching a TV show spend hours hiking, trust me the view is more worth it. It doesn’t have to be a hike to the Hollywood sign or the top of the Grand Canyon, hike even somewhere simple. With or without a trail, with or without the new Nike Roshes, just hike.
8. Pamper Yourself
9. Bake
Whether you like brownies, cupcakes, sweet potato fries, or just all of the above – bake! And then eat and eat. Try new recipes or make a classic just remember one thing; treat yo’self.
10. Go out for a meal, pottery class, zumba lesson, etc.
Meet up with that someone special or call up a friend you haven’t seen in a while to try something new! Test out that new painting spot, go out for sushi, take a pottery class, etc. Don’t just watch your favorite characters doing all these cool things, try them yourself and learn something new!
11. Visit a museum/ art gallery
A quieter, simpler activity but such a great way to learn new things and see new spots. Cute ways to spend the evening whether you’re alone or with someone else; museum or art galleries are wonderful places to spend a couple hours.
12. Sports Game
There two ways you can go about this. If you the athletic, sporty type then get some friends together and plan your own game. Whether there are four of you or twelve, a little competitive game is always healthy. But other than playing your own go out and watch other teams play. Local or the big leagues seating doesn’t matter, (ok, so sometimes it does) its all about the experience.
13. Gym
A daily must, you can never spend too much time exercising either at home or at the gym. All you really need – motivation. Yes, you can watch Netflix and workout in the comfort of your bedroom. But, if you want results then put on some clothes and go to the gym. Make that New Years Resolution reality and leave Netflix for another time.
