13 Truths About Social Media Every College Student Knows To Be True

Social media: The one thing, without a doubt, we can outsmart our parents on. The one thing that saves us from boring, awkward excuses, and one the thing that allows us to film our whole lives. Does it do more good than harm? We probably won't ever find out because we can't stop looking away from our phones long enough. Read below to find out the truths that every college student knows to be true about social media.

1. It is the number one biggest distraction from studying.

Two big exams to study for? Better keep that phone far away from you. You see your phone light up from a twitter notification and suddenly you’ve found yourself looking at tweets from 2012 from some random you met at a party.. Whatever happened to studying?!

2. We all know we’re addicted to it.

We all like to tell ourselves we’re not addicted to social media, that we could give it up anytime we wanted to. Sure, maybe the first couple of days it’d be nice to unplug for a bit.

3. We also know that we’re probably not going to give it up anytime soon.

We all could try and do a social media cleanse for maybe a month or so, but, nahh, we all know that’s not going to happen.. how else are you supposed to keep up with your friends lives?!

4. We all try to come up with reasons to justify why we need it in our lives.

“It’s how I keep in touch with all of my friends.”

5. Checking social media in the morning is a daily habitual morning routine for us.

*Wake up, Insta, make coffee, Snapchat, take shower, Twitter, eat breakfast, Facebook... You’re late for class.*

6. We are all self-conscious about how many likes we get on an Insta pic.

I don’t care who you are, if you don’t get worked up about how many likes you get on an Instagram picture, are you even a millennial?

7. Twitter is the one place where it doesn’t matter how many likes you get, you can say whatever you want anyways.

Drunk tweets, random thoughts, inappropriate jokes, funny mistakes, wreak havoc! No one cares because it’s Twitter.

8. Our Facebooks have to be family approved cause we all know grandma is watching.

Nothing goes unseen on Facebook…. nothing.

9. Snapchat consumes probably at least 25 percent of our day.

We all check new stories at least twice an hour...

10. Every time a new filter comes out those selfies keep rollin’ out too.

Dog face? Check. Rainbow puke unicorn? Check. Crazy evil bunny? Check. Policeman? Check. Bearded lumberjack? Check. They never, ever, stop.

11. We all know it’s a bit ridiculous to film every moment of our life and put it on our story.

Anyone who doesn’t know what snapchat is would be like… “So you just put little videos up of your life for everyone to see?" …Yep, sure do.

12. If we’re avoiding someone we have to chill out on all of our apps for a few hours.

Ah, the one downside of social media is that everyone can see what you’re doing all the time and last but not least...

13. Who do we think we are?

We say whatever the hell we want, post selfies with inspirational quotes thinking we can make a change, share videos to make people smile, take hilarious photos and videos of our friends and never, ever, stop. We may all be a bit crazy, but hey, at least we’re in it together, right?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
