Years ago, he taught us all how to read. Now, he teaches us how to live. He is there during the happy, during the sad. He knows what to say during a break-up as well as during a relationship. Our children will read his work one day and not understand, but once they grow up, they too will realize that he was the best teacher they ever had. His words are as soothing as a hug when your mom is no longer by your side. I encourage everyone to reread his picture books because Dr. Seuss is my best friend, and he was right about everything.

1. During midterms.

“Will you succeed? Yes you will indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)”

2. When picking a major.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

3. When you finally decided to sign up for theatre.

“Today you are you. That is truer than true. There is no one alive that is you-er than you!”

4. When your professor assigned an entire textbook's worth of reading due the next day.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

5. In the mornings… And sometimes in the afternoons.

“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.”

6. When your essay deserved a Pulitzer Prize.

“Oh the thinks you can think!”

7. When your essay definitely didn’t deserve a Pulitzer Prize.

“If things start happening, don’t worry, don’t stew. Just go right along and you’ll start happening too.”

8. When you realize how far away you are from home.

“You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

9. When your parents want you to be an engineer, but you really love English.

“Only you can control your future.”

10. When the Freshman 15 comes on strong.

“You are in pretty good shape for the shape you are in.”

11. Right before that massive presentation that is 40 percent of your grade.

“Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered.”

12. The first time you “cooked” in your kitchen and made gourmet Easy Mac.

"Adults are just outdated children."

13. When you realize that college was the best time of your life.
