Bob Ross’s fame manifests in his incredibly influential and wide-reaching television show, “The Joy Of Painting” in which he instructed viewers on painting techniques they could attempt in their very own home. Beyond the base knowledge of learning to paint beautiful landscapes, Ross’s teachings expanded to reaching an audience’s psyche through the artistic process. With his accessible program, plenty of people were learning to paint, and through the same instruction, those viewers were learning through artistic expression how to accept themselves. Here are 13 moments when Bob Ross’s understanding of creativity could be applied to the improvement of the lives of the viewers.

1. Channeling our creative energy can lighten our hearts.

2. When we find freedom on the canvas, we can find freedom on the canvas that is our life and paint our story on it.

3. We should not bar ourselves from what we truly want because we find them unreachable.

4. This positive outlook can save us from a life of looking down on our actions and decisions.

5. We can let go of happy accidents on the canvas or bad luck in finding the right colors in the same we can let go of anything in life that doesn’t work as expected.

6. It’s okay to perceive the world differently that it is laid out for us. We can view it in whatever light that makes us happy or excited.

7. We don’t have to follow a straight path laid out for us. As human beings, we plant ourselves where we choose and grow strongly from there.

8. Somewhere along the line, we must learn to live with who we are. We can do this by believing that who we are and what we put out to the world is someone beautiful.

9. There isn’t anything mystical about those who succeed. The self-fulfilling prophecy shows us that we can become whoever we are willing to put the effort into being.

10. There are times when things that happen in life are out of our control, but remember that sometimes it’s best to sit back and be along for the ride that life takes you on.

11. Even the best of us have our moments of insecurity and plenty of happy accidents. The best we can do is to admit them and move forward from there.

12. Sometimes we really have to put the work in to get the outcome we desire.

13. In art, as in life, the lens through which we see the world has an incredible and often wonderful effect on what we see.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
