He may be a little bit of a hick, but there are much worse things to be.

1) Hard Work Pays Off

The sweat, blood and sawdust are bound to pay off. The determination he has and ability to always finish what was started will show you just how much he puts into things that are important to him. He's putting the same amount of work into being with you.

2) It's Good to Spend Time Alone

Guaranteed he will be working the majority of the time dragging brush, splitting wood, or whatever he does that makes him so hangry. You won't always be spending time together, but when you do it's quality time because you aren't on each others nerves all day long.

3) Silence is Quality Time

Fishing, hunting, wood splitting, talking is not a requirement. Just being together is enough and sharing facial expressions is much better. You begin to know what the other person is saying when they raise their eyebrow or shake their hand at you. Smiles can be better than words, plus it's so much better when the fish are biting. (Patience!)

4) The Small Things Do Matter

He points at the sky and tells you to look at how beautiful the stars are because he wants to share it with you. When he sends you a song title it's because you came to his mind in the middle of the day. If you don't use your phone while you're together he will notice and appreciate it. He remembers things, he might even wear that shirt you like.

5) Inexpensive Doesn't Mean Cheap

Spending $2.61 on your "weird" drink at Dunkin Donuts is dumb when he could just make you a maple iced coffee at home. "We don't need to go out to eat, we have food right here." He believes you only need to spend money on the necessities (fishing counts). He works hard for his money. Plus hiking is free!

6) The Best Food Is Cooked Over a Campfire or Caught

A burger always tastes better slightly smoked and mac and cheese burned to the bottom of the pan is good just because it was touched by flames. The fire warms you from the outside and in. A fish you caught yourself or a bird he shot has a much different flavor.

7) Family Comes First

He loves his family and respects them and believes you should do the same. If he tells you they like you, take that as the greatest compliment he could give. he grew up listening to their views and learning from them, and isn't about to stop now. No doubt he will treat you right, his family taught him well. They raised a keeper.

8) Country Music is Good For the Soul

If you are feeling down or out of sorts a country song with a story is enough to lift you up. You will want to get up and dance and sing (yes, he sings) and laugh together about how terrible you both are. Sometimes though you just have to sit back and listen to the music. Listen to the lesson it is trying to teach you.

9) Life is Great

Deep talks about life are bound to happen, campfire talks will turn to wondering where it all began. You can both agree that there is a meaning to life and there are things that are meant to happen. However, you can't wait for them to happen you have to go out and pursue.

10) His Tools Are His Children

Whether it's his boat, truck, gun or chainsaw. It will always come first, maybe second if you're lucky. And if he lets you use his saw or gun or drive his truck and boat you can guarantee that you are special to him!

11) Stand Up for What you Believe In

He won't back down when he feels someone is challenging his right to believe what he wishes. Standing up for his beliefs is just in his blood. He believes what he believes for a reason and that isn't going to change.

12) A T-Shirt and Jeans Can Look Really Good

Most likely you won't see him in much other than a t-shirt and jeans and maybe some Carhartt's once in a while. He has a "good pair" of jeans that are for special occasions (when you can get him to go out to dinner) and his t-shirts seem to all look exactly the same, oil and sweat stained. But he manages to pull it off everyday.

13) Dates Are Adventures

Driving down the road looking for moose on a misty spring day, hiking miles upon miles, shooting skeet, fishing every river on the ride home, snowball fights at the top of a mountain in the middle of May, star gazing next to the campfire, stacking wood whilst jamming to country music, rock stacking on the beach, and watching fireworks from the boat.

He may be a little bit of a hick, but that's the only way to be. He will balance you out and bring out your adventurous side. You may even be a little country yourself. Despite the labels though, you are both happy, so let it stay that way!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
