- When parents lose their children in the store
At least once since I’ve been working in retail I’ve had someone come up to me and ask me to help them find their child. I’m never really sure how you lose a child but, but apparently this is possible.
2. Cleaning up after customers
It is always such a wonderful feeling coming into the store for your shift and seeing 20 pairs of jeans over the tops of the racks and on the floor… NOT!
3. Layaway
There are always those people who think that they are too good for layaway so they say “Don’t worry I’ll be back to get this tomorrow. I didn’t have time to buy it tonight.” Right….
4. People asking "Do you work here?"
No sorry, I just really like to wear this ugly lanyard and I also really enjoy cleaning up after everyone’s mess…. especially when I’m doing it for free.
5. People coming in so close to closing time
There is always that one person who has to come in five minutes before the store is closing to look around and it's your own personal hell.
6. People putting items away in the wrong sections
There are always those super lazy people who can’t reach up to put something away or walk a couple feet to put it back in the right spot. Honestly this doesn’t take too much energy to do, but people always end up leaving the store a huge mess.
7. Leaving all their clothing in the fitting room that they tried on
Half the time people act like the dressing room is their own closet. It would be super awesome if you could just at least tell me you left a huge mess in there.
8.“Can I speak with your manager?”
Yes, of course, you can! Let me just go get someone higher up than me to tell you exactly what I just told you. Because obviously someone with a fancier name tag knows way more than me who has also been working in this store for years.
9. Customers with no manners.
It’s always annoying when a customer comes to you for help and then they are completely rude the whole time. Or when they get mad because they don’t like how you bagged something. Hey, if you don’t like it then come and do it yourself.
10. When a customer wants to return items that have been used.
We know you’re trying to return something that you’ve been wearing and planned to return the next day so you could get your money back. Frankly, it’s quite an annoying process to return things, so just stop doing it!
11. Cheap customers
Customers always come up to you and beg you to ask a manager if this item they want is on sale. So, we always have to pretend to ask, even when we know what the answer will be.
12. People who think they are too good for your store.
Half the time there are always people who think that they are too good to be in your store. Well, apparently not since we’re both here!
13. Customers who won’t stop talking.
Even if this is part of the job, sometimes there isn't enough money in the world to listen to half the problems that some of these customers have.
