13 Things You Believed When You Were Younger That Turned Out To Be Completely False

Yep, that didn't happen.

As you get older, you tend to realize that a lot of the things you used to think were true are in reality, completely false. We grow up, and our heads clear of the dense fog of imagination and naivety, and we start saying a lot of "Yup, that didn't happen." Hmm. Sad, or just part of life? Anyway, here's a list of some of these things that come to mind:

1. I’m going to be famous

I always wanted to be the next Hannah Montana or Lizzie McGuire. Now, not only do I realize that is never going to happen, I also realize that I literally have zero desire to actually be famous.

2. I’m never going to live far away from home

I now go to school over 500 miles away.

3. I look so good in this picture

Mhm. Enough said.

4. I’m going to be friends with everyone I’m friends with now forever

Unfortunately, this just doesn't happen. I've been lucky that a lot of my friends from my childhood are still my best friends today, but in reality, you can't stay close friends with everyone forever.

5. I’m going to be able to eat bagels for breakfast and cookies with lunch for the rest of my life

If only this were true. It's funny to think about the stuff that I used to eat on a daily basis: bagels, Cheetos, cookies, and ice-cream. Eventually, I realized not only is this not healthy but it also is going to make me obese.

6. Braces are SOOOO cool

Yeah! Metal brackets on my teeth are going to make me look so cool!

7. I’m going to meet my Prince Charming in high school and we are going to live happily ever after

Yep, didn't happen.

8. I can sing

I used to stand up in front of ALL of my friends at birthday parties and sing "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. I'm so sorry to all of my friends who had to witness this.

9. I’m going to look really cool in this music video I’m making of myself

There are WAY too many videos on my computer of me mouthing the words to old Taylor Swift songs and over-using iMovie effects.

10. I’m ONLY going to an Ivy League school

When I was little, I thought that the only "good" colleges were Ivy Leagues. So I just assumed that if I'm smart, I'll go to Harvard or Princeton.

11. I wish I could break my leg/arm because casts are so cool

I used to be soooo jealous of the kids with neon-colored casts in elementary school. They got ALL of the attention when everyone wanted to sign their cast.

12. High schoolers are SO old and scary

Now, most high schoolers seem like fetuses to me.

13. I can’t wait to be older

I think most people can agree that getting older actually sucks. When you're young, you can't wait to grow up and be like all of the adults you see in real life and on TV. However, in reality, getting older means you have more responsibilities, worries, and challenges.

Sometimes it's nice to think back to all of your naiveness and realize how easy life used to be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
