Everyone will eventually leave their home town at one point in their life, some people return while others will not. Ashburn is one of those places. Many people will leave and come back, but some people will take their memories and their suitcase. We aren't very big. In fact, we could be called tiny compared to other places but we are mighty. Ashburn has a lot to offer for the family life; low crime, high income (for the most part), really nice houses. It is a place where we have a lot of pride in our academics and what we let others see of ourselves. Some of the most important things are learned; such as academics, sports(manship), and job opportunities. The stores are limitless, but that doesn't mean everyone's bank account is. There are a few things you know as someone from Ashburn that other people might not know about.
1) Humidity
Always look at the weather before doing your hair!
2) Mother Nature changes her mind faster than a fashionista changes their outfit.
One day you'll be wearing an outfit for skiing and snowboarding, the next you'll be ready for the beach.
3) People never know what Ashburn is...
Most people will say they are from NOVA, Leesburg, Loudoun County, or the DC area. You say Ashburn and you just get a blank stare.
4) The academic calendar actually depends on surrounding amusement parks.
This is true!!! No primary or secondary school starts before labor day in Virginia.
5) You know how to drive
With so many different drivers and different driving styles, you definitely know the difference between a good driver and a bad driver.
6) We have unlimited snow days!
Bring it on Mother Nature!
7) Almost every school field trip had something relating to history.
We were the first state, so it makes sense.
8) Cashburn
Fastest way to make someone uncomfortable, say they are from Cashburn and that they don't understand anything. You just smile awkwardly and try to switch the conversation. Talking about your family's money is just not necessary.
9) Kids having nice cars
When a teacher is interviewed in Ashburn, they are asked whether or not they are okay with their students having a nicer car than them.
10) You have done at least one project in elementary, middle, and high school (every single one) about colonial times.
11) Snobs
Combine parents' money and the reputation of going to some of the greatest school, you will find some people who are not only entitled but also ignorant. Some people take what they have for granted, while others deeply appreciate it.
12) You have eaten at more taverns than restaurants.
We like the layout, we find it comforting.
13) You know we aren't actually on the map
Ashburn actually isn't a town or city, we are a postal address. We are like Radiator Springs.
