13 Things That Make Towson Unique
Towson

Towson has several reasons that make it so unique and we all love it! Check out these reasons that we all love Towson University:

1. Size

It actually is a big campus with a small campus feel. I'm not talking about all the stuff you hear on every college tour. I mean, Towson has a lot of students, but no matter where I walk, I always see someone I know. It's not as big as the University of Maryland but it is the perfect size.

2. Greek life without housing

Greek life is a huge part of Towson's social scene. However, not having housing allows it not to be too overwhelming to those not involved in Greek life.

3. Tigerfest

The signature Towson event every April. It does not matter who performs, you are guaranteed to have an amazing time.

4. Being in Maryland

We're located in the state with the best pride!

5. Meals at Starbucks

Most schools don't let you use your meal plan on a frappuccino. Even if the hours are limited.

6. Shuttles

We have shuttles that go through campus. We have shuttles that go to other colleges in the area (John's Hopkins, Loyola, Goucher), off campus apartments and through the Towson area. All of these shuttles are for free.

7. Best Education Program in MD

Towson is known for the education program. It happens to be the best in Maryland.

8. Nightlife

There is always sometime to do at night. From uptown to going to the Colonies, there is always something going on.

9. Safer Mobility App/ Safety

I have always felt safe in Towson. Even though crime does happen, when I am on campus, I have never felt in danger. We have a free app where you can text the TU police and have live video with them whenever a student feels unsafe.

10. Dining Staff

We have nicest dining staff ever.

11. Study Abroad

Minimester, spring, summer, winter. It doesn't matter when, Towson will do whatever they can to allow you to study abroad whenever and wherever you want.

12. National Student Exchange

We also have a program that many don't know about called National Student Exchange. It is where you can pay Towson tuition for a semester or a year and go to another school in the U.S. There are many schools to pick from, to the University of South Carolina to schools in Hawaii.

13. Long Winter Break

That six-week winter break has its highs and lows. But it is nice to have a long time at home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
