14 Things College Kids Are Thankful For

College is a tough place where we learn and grow and actually appreciate things we took for granted in high school. We learnt to appreciate the small and sometimes weird things while also realizing that some things we often overlook are things we missed or appreciated more than we realized.

1. Study Buddies

It's inevitable we are going to have to study at some point in college, and let's be honest, are you really going to study by yourself with a laptop and the internet right in front of you? Probably not. But if you have a study buddy, there's someone there to help hold you accountable as you do the same for them. Plus, it makes the walks back to your room at 2 a.m. after studying a little less creepy.

2. Christmas/Month of December

Christmas time!!! College students tend to be more excited about ABC Family's 25 days of Christmas than anyone else. Why, you ask? Because that means that we are that much closer to the end of the semester and Winter Break. Plus, Christmas brings out the kid in everyone, and it gives us a chance to channel our inner five-year-old. Plus, you have even more of an excuse to curl up with a blanket and hot chocolate and watch movies!

3. When Your Parents Send Things (Like Toothpaste and Q-tips)

We never understood what it was like to have to buy these small necessities, and it is not fun! So when you receive that package that has a two pack of toothpaste and a big box of Q-Tips, you get excited! There's $6 that you no longer have to spend! Thanks Mom and Dad!

4. When Your Little and Your Best Friend Get Along

Random, but when two of the most important people to you on your campus get along, it makes life a little easier! You don't have to deal with the awkward eye-roll or grumpy attitude when one is around the other.

5. Class Being Cancelled

Not that this needs an explanation... But we love when we don't have class! You either get to sleep in, take a solid much needed nap or get an extra hour to study for that quiz or test you may or may have not forgotten about.

6. Feeding Time

A.K.A breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack time, or any time that we get to eat. We are constantly hungry and sometimes that just develops into being hangry, and no one wants that.

7. Game Day

If you're an athlete playing, your adrenaline is pumping all day and that's all you can think about. If you're a fan, your adrenaline is also pumping all day long! Everyone loves game day! It gives you something to do and gives you just another reason to love your school. Standing in the stands with your friends cheering on the team and screaming at the ref for a call that you're not completely sure was even bad but you yell anyway! It's the perfect place to make some of the best memories!

8. Trips to Your Roommates'/Friends' Homes

As much as you love your school and campus, being able to go to your roommate's or friend's home is pretty cool. You get to experience somewhere new and see where and how they grew up. It's a whole new experience, plus you get the comfort of a home and home-cooked meals, which we all miss!

9. Headphones

They can block out the world if you need them to. Just put a head phone in and it's like a mini barrier to the rest of the world saying don't talk to me. It's not necessarily a bad thing, especially when you're trying to get something down or just need some 'me time.' It's not very fun when you lose them... which tends to happen often.

10. Spotify/Pandora

It's free music... you're crazy if you don't like it. You can select which songs you want to listen to or the simple genre you wan to listen to. We don't have the money to actually purchase money anymore so it serves as the perfect way to listen to music. Plus you can use it on your laptop, phone or really anything that has internet.

11. Tumblers (the cup kind)

They're cute, easy to carry, and they can hold almost any type of liquid. It's perfect because it has a lid so nothing can fly into the cup but the straw allows you to drink at anytime and keeps you well hydrated. Plus you can get them for only $1 and any college kid loves things that are only $1.

12. Gum

It's gross, but sometimes you wake up three minutes before class and, well, you gotta be there on exam day, so gum is your default. If you're like me you need to chew to help you focus when doing homework and gum does that without you eating all the snacks you have available to you. It also can help get rid of your morning after coffee breath.

13. Falling Asleep on the Couch

There's just something that is so soothing when it comes to curling up on the couch at home watching T.V. and slowly falling asleep without even realizing it. Doing this is not highly recommended, due to the chance of the couch that you have available to being a community couch and well gross.

14. Family Time

In high school, we couldn't get away fast enough. We did everything we could to be away from home. Now when we get home we want to be home with family. Being able to relax with your family by your side is soothing and relaxing. We appreciate the quality time we have with our family as we begin to realize what we have and that we are getting older, and who knows where the future will take us.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
