Here's something you don't hear a lot, "thank you". It's a simple phrase that we don't say much anymore. To be thanked, or to feel thankful, someone normally does something to make you feel that way. There are certain people we, as students, either don't say thank you to enough or we never say thank you to.

1. The Mailman

So not someone you would have thought to be first on the list. However, they are the one person who connects us with everyone outside of campus. Our family, friends, they send us letters and an assortment of packages for us to open and maybe cry about. I know I've gotten letters from my Grandma that made me cry because of how much I miss her. Without them, no way for us to receive the things we truly want. Including those books we ordered from Amazon.

2. The Cafeteria Workers

Most of the time, the people that work here are students we see every day. The others are adults who decided to be around us all day. Most of us could probably agree that most of the time, we'd rather cook our own food than eat at the cafe. But, when we don't feel like cooking or we can't cook without burning something, we go there to eat and gossip with our friends from the hall.

3. Janitors

We as college students make a lot of messes. We clog the toilets, the showers, we puke in the halls when we get drunk. It's a nightmare. If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have clean...well anything. Without you, the bathrooms in the halls would be disgusting. The kitchen areas would be a place reserved only for hell and nothing would be as nice as it is now.

4. Tutors

Okay so not all of us are straight A students. There's a few but, they never need the help of tutors, normally. As for the rest of us, math class is a bit of a struggle. Tutors somehow managed to pass those impossible classes and are making it possible for us to pass. Even if we stare at them just after they've explained the problem 5 times.

5. Professors

We love to hate them but, we hate to love them. They teach us the knowledge we need to pass the class and to graduate from college. Our issue is that some or most of the time, we can't stand them. You'll get over it, eventually. They only want to help us succeed.

6. Classmates

Our classmates keep us from going crazy in class. In any class, you can always come across something you don't like or don't understand. The professor is busy or, simply doesn't want to help. So what can we do? Ask our classmates of course! They probably understand it better than you do. And if they don't, then you can figure it out together. Right or wrong, you'll always see them in the next class.

7. Club Members

In college, you run across many clubs, organizations, and RSOs. The people you meet here will become your friends, people you can trust. They can help you with your homework and help you adjust to life on campus. They're either a freshman like you, so they're learning just like you or they've been on campus for a while and can give you some wonderful advice. Just the one thing you could always use.

8. RHD (residence hall director)

For those of you who know your hall director, you can go to him/her with any issues you have in the hall. They can point you in the direction of groups in the hall, hall council, and other events in the hall. They can help you with almost anything, almost.

9. RA's/MA's

If you can't find your RHD, you can talk to your RA or MA. They're your age and really understanding about a lot of things. It's easier to talk to them because they could be going through the same thing you are. They can help you with your classes, most of the time. They may be busy with RA duties or, studying for a test but, they always want to help.

10. Hallmates

Some of the first friends you'll make are your hallmates. They're the kids from down the hall, or even across the hall that say hi to you when they see you in the lobby. You may become best friends, boyfriend/girlfriend, or maybe even pool buddies. If you ever need someone at 2 a.m. and none of your roommates are up, you can probably find someone to talk to from down the hall.

11. Roommates

Now granted, we always find some little thing to complain about when it comes to our roommates. Here's the thing though, they're always there for our 3 a.m. tears, our afternoon naps, our messy morning hair, and all the other crap we go through. They know more about you than you do, only because they live with you. Complain now but, you'll thank them later.

12. Friends From Home

When we leave home, it's often that we won't hear from our old friends. Once or twice when we're at college and maybe we'll see them when we're home. We can't thank them enough though for all the memories, experiences, and lessons they gave us.

13. Parents

Over the years, we've given our parents a lot of grief. We've caused them pain, trouble, and happiness. From our first cold to our walk across the stage to get that diploma, they've always been there for us. They helped us move in and they still push us to this day to be a better student and person in general. We can't say it enough, thank you. Thank you for everything you've ever done for us.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
