Working in retail is obviously not a glamorous job, but it's a good starter job for a high school or college student. Here are 13 things you are bound to experience as a retail worker:
1. When someone destroys the display you worked on for two hours.
"I need to go on my break. Right. Now."
2. The feeling you get when that one manager walks over to you.
Every employee in the store fears him or her, and for good reason. Hopefully, when he or she walks away, you'll still have your job.
3. Black Friday shifts are the actual worst.
Enough said.
4. Repeat offenders.
You begin to recognize these people, and a panicked craze begins on the walkie when they walk into the store:
"Quick! Rude Rose is back!"
5. When someone says, "There's no price tag, that must mean it's free!"
Ha. Haha. Hahahahahahaha.
6. When you want to go on your break, but have no one to cover for you.
Schedule things better, please.
7. Having to talk to people while you are on your walkie.
The worst part of this one is that the customer usually doesn't realize you're listening to someone else's problems over the headset.
8. When people start lining up at your register.
I was not trained for this.
9. When you have to count the register, but the store is still open
You have never felt paranoia like this before. No one can be trusted.
10. When your family comes to see you in action.
"Look at my baby all grown up and working!"
11. Listening to the same music over and over again.
It may be an awful song, but after the fifteenth rotation, it starts to get to you.
12. When you get asked to pick up a shift and you don't have plans.
"We need to go out. Tonight."
13. When you have to clean out the fitting rooms.
C'mon people, the sign obviously says no more than six items!
