1.Getting called cute..not what we’re going for..it’s seriously a problem
If we had a dime for every time we were called cute, because of our height, our inability to reach things, and our assumed “cute” persona, we would be able to pay off the debt of the United States.
2.Reaching Objects on the Top Shelf
Because of our inability, we have mastered the art of climbing counters or creating a stack of everything around us to reach anything we want on the top shelf. When there’s nothing around, our first instinct is to find someone much taller than us.
3.Not reaching the floor on chairs
If there’s anything we would like to reach…it’s the floor! Oh the envy of everyone around us.
4. Chosen to sit in the backseat
Since we are shorter, it is assumed that we also must be skinny. When we are shoved in the back of the car with others, we are smaller, so there is more intrusion of our personal space. Maybe think in that perspective the next time you have to do this, especially if we’re all strangers… Just the thought of it is awkward and uncomfortable.
5.Looking up to people…literally
Yes, we look up to you. It depends on who you are if we look up to you metaphorically #shotsfired. We are so used to looking up that it feels rare that we look eye to eye with someone our height.
6.Not being able to see when someone tall sits in front of us
Please have some courtesy. When you know someone is short, don’t sit in front of them. As you sit down, you’re literally doing the exact same thing the moon does when it eclipses the sun! We cannot see after that moment someone taller sits in front of us.
7.Keeping up with tall friends when walking
Let me just say this: PLEASE slow down. Someone who is taller has a longer stride (just in case you didn’t know); one of their strides makes up ten of ours. If your short friend is panting and struggling to keep up with you, it doesn’t mean they’re out of shape (well, they could be, but definitely not the point), it’s because our strides are shorter.
8.Finding pants that fit
Everyone has witnessed the rolling up of the pants. Confession: the pants are too long. It’s difficult to shop for the perfect pair of jeans, and it causes a major fashion dilemma.
9.Borrowing a friend’s clothes doesn’t work to your advantage
Having friends of average (or above average) height is a disadvantage when we need clothes to borrow. Not only is it obvious, but when it comes down to it, we just act like baggy clothing is in style.
10.Short Nicknames
Short stuff, snack size, fun size, midget, elf, dwarf, smalls, tiny… No offense, but it’s time for more originality (sorry, sarcasm dictates this bullet point).
11.Getting used as a stand
No, it’s not funny. If you need something to help you stand, buy a cane or try to use the feet you were blessed with #sorrynotsorry
12.Mistaken for being too young
We’re sure this will only benefit us when we age, but if we’re still in our early 20’s, we frequently are mistaken for 15-year-olds. Having an I.D. is definitely our best friend when we are out!
13.Everyone underestimates us
Just because we are short, it doesn’t mean our talent grew as much as we did. Enough said.
