So maybe you're excited. So maybe you're prepared. So maybe you're in denial. So maybe you're a senior? WHAT.
Senior year of college. The "best four years of your life" are going to be coming to a close in just two short semesters. Are you ready? Don't worry, nobody could ever be ready. Here's what you're in for:
.) Moving into your last dorm room with all of your friends after your last "real" summer, which probably entailed a job/internship that took up 40 hours per week, plus commuting, makes you realize that the beginning of the end is here--so live it up while you can!
.) Then, the first day of classes....and you realize that you forgot everything you had learned in your Major classes over the summer.
.) Your professors go around the class for icebreakers and for the first time, you have to say "I'm a senior" out loud.
.) Syllabus week? Apparently your 400 level classes no longer follow that rule and you were expected to come to class with a chapter outline and 15 problems completed. But, of course, you didn't do it.
.) Within the first week of school, you have approximately 27 emails from the career center asking about job applications, resumes, interviews, cover letters, graduate school and you realize that you have a lot to do in order to stay afloat.
.) You see freshmen getting lost on campus and complaining about their intro classes, when in reality, you would give absolutely anything to be back in their situation.
.) But when they ask you questions about classes, professors, coursework, and social entertainment, you finally feel like you've learned SOMETHING over the past three years.
.) Your schedule starts so late into the afternoon that an 11AM wake up call has you cursing the professor for not canceling class again. Basically, you get upset over any reason that you have to leave your bed and the comfort of your laziness and denial of what's happening in the real world.
.) Food becomes your best friend. You eat when you're hungry. You eat when you're stressed. You eat when you're socializing with friends. You eat when people ask about your plans after college so that you don't have to answer since your mouth is full...
.) The first round of applications, interviews, and job searches begins. Suddenly, your classes feel like the Hunger Games because you and your peers are fighting over the select post-grad positions.
.) Your friends begin to hear back for second interviews and job offers, but you're still laying in your bed and ignoring the texts from your parents asking about the job search and workload this semester.
.) GRADUATION. You made it, you did it. You are officially 1. Very old, 2. Very much an adult, and 3. Very bored in the real world. Whatever you do, you push your college memories back in your mind because the very thought of having that much fun again, instead of sitting in a cubicle 9-5, can bring on the waterworks.
Congratulations, you're a senior! And soon, you will be joining the real world and working a real job. While you have one last year before this becomes reality, live it up--make new friends, make new connections, and make new memories that will get you through the 8 hour days at the office. Best of luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.
