Let's throw it back to the late 1990s and early 2000s when us millennials were in the earlier stages of our not yet stressful lives. Many of us walked around with our portable CD players and jumbo headphones, or if we were lucky enough, with our OG iPod minis. On our devices, we probably had the soundtracks to our favorite movies, favorite tv shows and/or favorite artists. All songs who's lyrics, to this day, will never be forgotten.
During this time period, certain songs used to put us all into our "feels," meaning that the song would take our hearts and emotions and stuff it in a jar of feelings that felt so powerful that we thought the jar would soon burst. But what were those songs that channeled our feelings when we were young, young children? Let's see...
1. "Beautiful Soul" - Jesse McCartney.
We were all convinced that this beautiful soul was singing directly to us, making us feel all "lovey dovey" and hopeful that we will one day find a boyfriend like him, if not him. If I'm not mistaken, he was the first crush most of us ever had.
2. "He Could Be The One" - Hannah Montana.
This song was always relevant when you'd come home from school and think about your crush who finally learned your name.
3. "Bad Day" - Daniel Powter.
We all went out of our way to find this gem on a day when things didn't go as planned or in our favor.
4. "Catch Me" - Demi Lovato.
The chorus man, the chorus is what really used to hit us right in the heart.
5. "Complicated" - Avril Lavigne.
When you saw your crush talking to someone else more than your crush was talking to you. This jam was not only a powerful one but it was also a definite "go to".
6. "7 Things" - Miley Cyrus.
Admit it, we all listened to this song until we learned each of the seven things. This song made us feel powerful and in control of our emotions.
7. "Gotta Go My Own Way" - High School Musical.
Sometimes this scene was too much so we'd fast forward to save the tears.
8. "This Is Me" - Camp Rock.
This song gave us confidence, power, voice, and comfort within our skin. Not gonna lie this song is still just as powerful.
9. "I'll Be" - Edwin McCain.
"I'll be your crying shoulder..." Ahhhh If you're anything like me, this song takes me straight to this scene in the Cinderella Story, then directly into my feels.
10. "When You Look Me In The Eyes" - Jonas Brothers.
When this song played, our hearts would melt, our cheeks would blush and our hope for true love would continue to grow exponentially.
11. "If We Were A Movie" - Hannah Montana.
We ALWAYS sang this song off the top of our lungs with a special someone in mind.
12. "Belief" - Gavin DeGraw.
This song preaches our gratitude and appreciation for those who support us and continue to love us unconditionally. Also, a song that is sung from the tops of our lungs.
13. "Best Thing I Ever Had" - Beyoncé.
One word: Beyoncé.
