In life you will have
hundreds of friends and dozens of "best friends," but those friends
will come and go. There is, however, one person who is always going to be
your number one: your Mom. I could tell you reason after reason why my
Momma is my best friend, but the list would never stop. To sum it up,
here are thirteen reasons why my Momma is my number one.
1. She can always put a smile on my face.
No matter where I am, or what mood I am in, my Mom can always make me smile. I don’t know if it is her voice, her laugh, or her smile, but she has momma magical powers that always make me feel better.
2. She lets me call her fifteen times a day and does not complain one bit.
Going to a college 715 miles away from home is not easy and knowing not one person upon arrival was even harder. But, Momma made it all okay. I probably call her at least fifteen times a day, sometimes in five minute increments, and it can get pretty annoying, but she never complains. Seriously, someone could open the door for me and I’ll call my Mom right then and there to tell her about it; I’m not in the South anymore people, it is a big deal when someone opens the door for you here. She’s always there and it’s the best thing in the world.
3. I can tell her everything and it’s not weird at all.
I tell my Mom way too much about my personal life; seriously, she knows more than my diary does. I wouldn’t have it any other way though. Even if she does not approve of half the stuff I do or tell her, she listens no matter what. She is my confidant.
4. She knows everything about me.
Since I do tell her literally everything that goes on in my crazy life, there are no secrets. While this can be a bad thing sometimes, it is also the best because I never get caught in a lie with her.
5. She calls me out.
Along with my Sister and closest friends, my Mom calls me out on all of the stupid stuff I do. Momma does have my back no matter what, but she is not going to let me think I am right if I am far from it. She is the one person who will not ever be afraid to correct me, it is the best.
6. She’s my Mom first, and my friend second.
Yes, I can tell her everything, I can hang out with her, and we can joke around, but she is my Mother first and my best friend second, as she should be.
7. She gives the best hugs.
Being so far away from home is the worst because I can’t hug Momma whenever I want. No one gives a hug like your mom and a hug from momma is something you can never take for granted.
8. She believes in me.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am all over the place. When I’m not at college, I am in my car, in a different state every other day, doing God knows what. But, my Mom lets me travel, be adventurous, and find myself every day with no questions asked. My Mom believes in me so much that she let take a year off school to go live in Italy. She believes in me so much that she let me move to Chicago to follow my dreams of one day working in the music industry. If it weren’t for how much faith my Mom has in me, I would not be the person I am today.
9. She is my rock.
My Momma is my shoulder to cry on, my biggest motivator, and my hero.
10. She puts me first.
As mad as it makes me that she puts herself last in everything, it is truly inspiring and extraordinary. My Sister and I are the two luckiest girls on this earth because we have Josie Cox as our Momma. She touches the hearts and lives of many and does not even realize it. She is a selfless person and she is the best person I know.
11. She forgives.
I do so many things that in my opinion are unforgivable, but Momma loves me anyway. She forgives like nobody’s business and it is incredible.
12. She loves to cry.
My Momma is probably crying as she reads this, just like I started crying as I wrote it. We laugh together, we love together, and we cry together; it’s just who we are. I cry at least five times a day and while some of my friends call me overly emotional, I know that my Mom will simply call me human. She understands me the most and it makes life so much easier.
13. She is a rockstar.
There really is an endless list of reasons why my Mom is a rockstar. The number one reason though is that she is beautiful. I have never met someone so caring, loving, forgiving, and as beautiful inside and out as she is. My mother is without a doubt the best person I know and I hope that one day I can be half of the person she is.
