13 Reasons Why I Miss Elementary School

Bus rides and gym class were definitely the best parts of the day.

13 Reasons Why I Miss Elementary School

It seems like we have spent the majority of our lives waiting to be older, but now that I’m 18, all I want is to be back in elementary school again. I haven’t met very many people that didn’t like elementary school. Everyday was packed with fun, laughter and most importantly, no stress. There were so many fads that were the coolest thing, but today they are either a. not around anymore, b. don’t happen to college kids and c. aren’t deemed socially acceptable for college kids to have. (Coloring is still one of my favorite pastimes and is now becoming a “thing” again [internally screams.])

1. Nobody cared what you wore:

No matter how awful your poncho, flared jeans, printed tee and clogs outfit combo was, you and your friends walked down the hallways like you were Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. And nobody ever questioned your outfit of choice, because you all wore the same thing.

2. Limited Too:

Dare I explain more?!

3. Less stress: The most stressful thing we had to deal with was whether we were going to have chocolate or plain milk at lunch time. Bring me back to that.

4. No texting drama:

If you were lucky enough to have a cell phone, you probably didn’t get it until fifth or sixth grade, and were one of the lucky few. If your friend hurt your feelings, you handled that at the monkey bars, not behind the safety of your iPhone screen.

5. Webkinz:

These little guys were my lifeline. They went everywhere with me, and don’t even get me started on their online lives. #CrazyWebkinzMom

6. Weirdly flavored lipglosses/chapsticks:

The #1 place to go was the mall, more specifically Claire’s and they always had the most terrible flavors of Lip Smackers, like Dr. Pepper or grape soda, but that didn’t stop you from forcing your mom to buy you all of them. Now, being an adult, you have to wear this weird thing called lipstick and I don’t appreciate it.

7. Sick days: Remember when your mom heard you cough in the middle of the night and was like “OMG you don’t need to go to school today! You’re so sick!” Now, you could literally be dying from any sort of illness but you know you have to go class or you will be drowned in work.

8. Snow days: Although snow days do occasionally happen in college, nothing compared to sleeping with the wooden spoon under the pillow and getting your wish granted of a snow day.

9. Disney Channel Original Movies:

"Zenon," "The Cheetah Girls," "My Date with the President's Daughter," HSM, "Smart House" and so many others.

10. Tiger Beat, Bop, M, PopStar:

If you don’t know what these are, then you obviously didn’t care to learn about what Miley Cyrus ate for lunch during a day on set of "Hannah Montana."

11. Epic TV Shows:

"Legends of the Hidden Temple," "The Naked Brothers Band" and "Zoey 101" are some of the greatest shows in history.

12. Jesse McCartney posters:

The happiest day was when my mom finally let me hang up a poster of teenage heartthrob Jesse McCartney in my room. He’s been breaking hearts ever sense. (He was also the only boy my mom let me have in my room at that age with the exception of my brother and dad.)

13. Lemonade Stands:

It seemed like no matter how awful your “homemade” (pre-made mix) lemonade was, your cute face and excitement always won people over. Forever wishing I saved all that money I made, definitely could have came in handy now.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
