For some people, Halloween is a day for dressing up and eating free candy. For others, it is an entire season of fun. I am with the former. October is the season of Halloween! Here is a list of what makes this holiday so fun and ways to celebrate it.

1. Pumpkins symbolize fall and Thanksgiving.

But, if you carve out a face then you have a jack-o-lantern! They are fun to make and are amazing decorations.

2. Seasonal movies

Whether horror, kid-friendly, or in between is your preferred style, there are an array of creative movies to watch through October.

3. TV show specials

There are gory, spooky shows like American Horror Story or Halloween sitcom specials like from "The Office" or "Parks and Recreation."

4. Decorations

They do not only have to be blood and gore! Halloween has many themes such as a frightening, crumbly old house with cobwebs, a witch's lair with black cats and cauldrons, or a happy haunt with smiling, fat ghosts and grinning jack-o-lanterns on every surface.

5. Music

Dust out those annual funky tunes. Halloween has a unique sound that adds to the seasonal vibe, whether it is a slasher movie soundtrack or the good ol' Monster Mash.

6. Themed books

Want to expand your literary library? There are tons of fictional stories about the supernatural or mythological creates that populate Halloween legends. When in doubt, read Harry Potter!

7. Halloween phrases

Need a caption for social media? There are several famous, poetic quotes. My favorite is:

"When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, 'tis near Halloween." -Unknown

8. Superstitions and myths

Take part in the fun and put up garlic by the door to ward off vampires or grab your (un)lucky black cat. It is the season of spooks!

9. Fall activities

They are a variety of ways to celebrate. Whether it is going through a corn maze or getting spooked at a haunted house, there are plenty of group activities to do!

10. Seasonal food

It never tasted so good! This is the time of the year to buy pumpkin spiced everything or consume as much caramel apples or apple cider as you please.

11. Costumes

The process of creating your Halloween costume for The Big Day is a large part of the fun. You get to be whoever you want!

12. Animals dressed up

Because costumes are so prevalent, there is a chance you will see adorable costumes on animals. Who doesn't love that?

13. Candy

The day and season of Halloween means all the candy you can eat! Whether you go scouting on the 31st for free treats or buy yourself a mega bag at the store, candy is an integral part of the holiday.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
