With summer coming, what are you dreading?

Summer is presented as this perfect time of the year. The lack of summer, the extra freedoms, all of this is great, but let us not forget that there are some downfalls to this season.

The Weather

The absolute worst part of summer is the fluctuating weather. One day it is muggy, and the next it is burning hot with not a cloud in site.

The Furniture

With the weather outside being muggy and gross, you are bound to get stuck to the furniture. Leather seats are going to stick to you, and seat belts? Do not dare touch that metal or you are going to burn yourself.

The Increased Work Schedule

Without classes to limit your work schedule, your boss is going to expect you to pick up a few extra shifts. Granted the extra money is nice to have, but the amount of time that you are now forced to spend at work is not ideal, no matter the job.

Seeing Family

Being home all the time means that family can visit anytime. Your folks are going to force you to go visit with Aunt Betty who you have never seen thanks to the great excuse of having to be in class.

Seeing Old Friends

Being back in your hometown means that you see old friends, which, at first, seems ideal. However, these ‘old friends’ are the reason you went to college out of state. That weird kid that put spitballs in your hair, and the kid that bit you during graduation practice.

No One Is Available

The few people you are actually willing to talk to in your few months off from school are never around. Why is it that everyone else gets to go on grand adventures while you are stuck home?

The Clothing

The clothing available in summer is one of two options, unbelievable warm or horrifyingly revealing. For girls especially, things that are ‘in style’ usually are not summer appropriate, who has ever heard of wearing a turtleneck in the summer? The other option consists of shorts that, in order to fit in the waist, are far shorter than the ‘fingertip rule’.

Shaving

For girls, summer means spending money and time on the mundane task of shaving. To stay cool, shorts are a necessity. In order to wear shorts and be socially accepted, girls will spend many hours throughout the summer nicking their legs as they get the perfect shave.

Swimming

Summer entails lots of swimming on the beach. This leads to hours of swimsuit searching and trying to find one you are not terrified to wear in public. It also meals you have to spend countless hours afterwards getting the sand out of everything.

Bugs

Bugs, bugs, everywhere. The muggy weather has brought them out indefinitely. The bugs leave awful welts on all skin that is showing. The worst part is that bug spray does not keep them off and just leaves your skin with a strange sticky feeling and stinky stench.

Meals

There are no school cooking meals anymore. For three meals a day, you are expected to actually make your meals. This entails making it through all three meals without burning anything…

Prepping For School

Once August hits, the impending doom of school approaching is sure to put a damper on your spirits. You will feel the need to do almost anything to postpone schooling.

No matter how bad summer gets, remember that soon enough your swimsuit is going to be switched out for turtleneck sweaters.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
