Why do we always wait for birthdays or special holidays to show appreciation towards people we love? Whether this person is a friend, family member, or someone you would like to get close to, show them you appreciate them!

1. Take the initiative by reaching out and scheduling a time to eat and catch up with them

2. Write them a short, handwritten note of encouragement

3. Recommend a song, movie, book, or food that you think they would like

4. Give them a personalized gift when they’re least expecting it

5. Support their interests and the things they’re involved in

6. Tell them that you’re grateful for their presence in your life

7. If physical touch is at the top of their love languages, give them a quick hug or a pat on the back

8. Buy them their favorite food

9. Make something for them, regardless of whether it’s food, artwork, or a bracelet

10. Confide in them and show them you trust them and can be vulnerable with them

11. Compliment them out of nowhere. It may seem random, but it will definitely brighten up their day

12. Look them in the eye while they are talking to show that they have your complete, undivided attention

13. Accept them for who they are, and respect their decisions and opinions

14. Offer to help them with a difficult task, and do whatever you can to help them

15. Actively listen to their concerns by reiterating what they’ve said and responding in an appropriate manner

16. Tell them that you love them

Showing your appreciation to someone you love and cherish doesn’t have to occur solely on Christmas or on their birthday. Taking the time to genuinely love on someone is a way for you to develop your relationship with that person. Tell that special person you love them when you have the chance!

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
