Now that move-in is over, college freshmen are meeting a lot of new people. From classmates to floormates and everyone in between, your freshman year of college is filled with many people who will have an impact on your life forever. Here are 12 types of people you will meet your freshman year.
1. The First-Week Friend.
Once you move in, freshmen have the tendency to cling to the first person who is nice to them. While there’s nothing wrong with this, these kind of friendships don’t tend to last long. Everyone looks back on the freshman year and thinks of the people they went to their first football game with or who was there for them when classes started up and wonder what ever happened to the friendship they thought they had.
2. The Bookworm.
While studying is very important, some people take it to the full extreme. You will meet someone your freshman year who is taking their studies very seriously. Every time you see them they’ll be curled up in the library or a study lounge preparing themselves for a test three weeks in advance.
3. The Campus Crush.
Everyone has the guy or girl the develop a crush on super early in the year. It could be someone you meet at a welcome activity or someone you come across in your classes. Either way, you’ll end up running into this person more often than nearly anyone else. Regardless of what happens between you two, you’ll always be getting middle school butterflies whenever your campus crush is nearby.
4. The Annoying Classmate.
As if your 8 a.m. history lecture wasn’t awful enough, add an obnoxious classmate and you find yourself in one of the worst possible situations. This classmate may ask way too many questions, smell awful or talk to their friends the entire class – but either way, you’ll be counting down the days until you don’t have to see them again.
5. The Partier.
Some people go to college just to experience the social aspect, and this is very true for the partier that you’ll run across one day. Every weekend, the partier will leave their dorm room around 11 p.m. and won’t return until 3 a.m. (and when they do return, they’ll reek of vodka.)
6. The Greek Life God or Goddess.
During your freshman year, you will fully master the Greek alphabet even if you aren’t involved in Greek life yourself. You’ll encounter your own Greek Life God or Goddess once rush week has ended and their wardrobe and conversations are completely filled with their new Greek life.
7. The Roommate.
If you live on campus, you’ll (obviously) meet your roommate. Now, your roommate could end up being your best friend, a casual acquaintance, your worst nightmare or anything in between. Regardless of your relationship with your roomie, you better learn to live with them – you’ll be spending the next few months with them sleeping right across the room from you.
8. The Homesick Kid.

9. The Work-Out Freak.

10. Your RA.
If you live in university housing, you’ll have an RA. Your RA is there for you to keep you safe and is there if you ever have any questions or need any advice. Your RA will likely be a positive ray of sunshine and the poster child for what a successful college student is like. If you need anything, if you’re lost, or if you just want someone to talk to, your RA is always a good option.
11. The Goody-Goody.
Obviously, this person has never drank, smoked, cussed, jaywalked or committed anything that would be even slightly seen as bad behavior. You’ll never see this person out at parties or up past midnight. You’re going to find yourself wishing you could be as innocent as this person again come November.
12. Your Best Friend.
Somewhere during this mess that is known as college, you will stumble across your best friend. Keep your eyes open because they could be anywhere – the guy you sit next to in English, the girl that lives across from you or your overly friendly new co-worker could end up being your friend for life. With all the crazy characters you’ll stumble upon during freshman year, you’ll be counting your blessings when you meet the lifelong best friend everyone promised you college would bring.
