When you're sitting around waiting for class to start or taking a break from work, what do you do? You most likely take out your smartphone and scroll through the latest news, check out the forecast, text your bestie from earlier or catch up on your social media accounts, right?

The world of social media is easy to get engulfed in. You can have numerous accounts across websites and spend hours scrolling through all of the posts, pictures, and tags. While 18-29 year-olds spend the majority of their time on Facebook, Twitter is a prominent social media platform used by many.

So what makes Twitter different? Twitter lets you follow others, share posts with others and create tags -- but there's a catch. All of the tweets, have to less than 140 characters total. So you have to be short, quick, and to the point when it comes to articulating your thoughts. While the possibilities are endless, here are 12 public Twitter accounts you should add to your feed!

1. Professor Snape (@_Snape_)

This Twitter account is just like Professor Snape--dry, sarcastic and crude. If you're a fan of Harry Potter humor, there are plenty of tweets from Snape for wizards, witches and Muggles alike. There are countless references to the series, from the movies and books.

2. Huffington Post (@HuffingtonPost)

The Huffington Post is the perfect source to follow if you're interested in news, politics, science, human rights, or business. The tweets are linked right to articles from their website where you can find other stories in categories you're interested in.

3. Kanye West (@kanyewest)

Even if you're not a fan of Kanye's music (or him), his tweets are loud-spoken and kind of funny. But most of the time his account is basically a live feed of verbal diarrhea outbursts, which can be extremely entertaining.

4. AcneSkinSite (@AcneSkinSite)

AcneSkinSite's Twitter feed is all about skin and beauty. It's where you can find tips on skincare and general wellness. There are tons of DIYs routines and suggestions to help you look and feel your best. It's also a way to reminder yourself about healthy things you should be doing throughout the day.
