With only around two weeks left in the semester before we are turned loose for the summer, it's time to really start daydreaming about plans for the summer. That's the only surefire way to get through exam week, knowing that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Now, any good summer plans will almost always include a beach trip, a family vacation, and lots of time tanning by the pool. I don't know about you guys, but no matter how nice and sunny it is outside, some days all I want to do is cuddle up in my room and binge-watch my favorite TV shows. So I figured I would share some of those shows with everyone just in case you're at a loss for something to pass the time with once the stress of school is gone for three months.
1. "The Vampire Diaries"
Get lost in the drama of a small town's attempts to deal with vampires and werewolves and other strange mystical creatures. Elena Gilbert finds herself stuck in the midst of a love triangle between two irresistible boys who just so happen to be brothers. And no this is nothing like Twilight, despite some disturbing similarities. Plus, who thought it was even possible for the entire cast of a show to be so attractive?
2. "One Tree Hill"
OK, I've got to warn you all for this one, prepare for lots and lots of drama, but also prepare to get unconditionally attached to the characters. The show starts off focusing on two half brothers who share the same ass of a father. They play basketball and deal with love triangles and classic high school drama. The show even continues on after the characters graduate high school, showing their real life endeavors.
3. "Friends"
It does not matter how many times I watch these episodes, I will still laugh my ass off every time Chandler cracks a joke or when Phoebe says something weird. Watching these six friends live their normal yet hilarious lives in the midst of New York City can easily become an addiction, but who needs real friends when you have these guys?
4. "LOST"
Get ready for a wild ride when a plane crashes on a seemingly normal island in the middle of the Pacific. This group of people learns to deal with each other and more importantly survive. Then one night they hear a noise out in the forest that sounds like it could only be coming from something gigantic and straight out of a horror movie. The deeper you get into the six seasons, the wilder the ride gets. You won't even be able to stop watching long enough to freak out about what you just saw before you find your hand inching toward "next episode."
5. "Once Upon A Time"
This fairy-tale based show is an absolute dream for huge Disney fans because it finds a way to input practically every fairy tale ever into the plot of the show, from Elsa to Mulan. Season one sort of eases into the plot, but after that the intensity level rises immensely each season, introducing new places, people, and magic.
6. "Archer"
Don't be fooled by the fact that this is a cartoon. The show is definitely meant for mature audiences only. It follows secret agent Sterling Archer and his dysfunctional cohorts who always somehow seem to succeed in whatever mission they are assigned. Archer also has to deal with the fact that his boss is his own rather heartless mother, which adds a hilarious twist to the show.
7. "That 70's Show"
Somehow five completely different teenagers are all best friends and spend their high school days hanging out in Eric Foreman's basement. The show follows Eric, Donna, Jackie, Hyde, Fez, and Kelso as they get into ridiculous shenanigans and try to avoid Red Foreman's wrath but at the same time never avoid Kitty Foreman's good cooking.
8. "Fringe"
This supernatural mystery show begins with a first season that follows a formula similar to "Bones" or "Criminal Minds," in which each episode poses a different crime (but all of them having to do with odd and supernatural occurrences). The three main characters, Olivia, Peter, and Peter's father Walter go thrown together as the detectives for these cases and quickly become close. After season one, though, everything that happens is connected somehow and it all leads up to a completely bizarre final season.
9. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
This absolutely crazy friend group owns a bar in Philly together. Frank, the oldest and richest of the gang, supplies the endless funds that Mac, Dennis, Charlie, and Dee need in order to keep up their fun-filled lifestyle. The antics never end as the gang continues to get more and more careless and hilarious throughout the seasons.
10. "Orange is the New Black"
This Netflix original shows us the inner workings of a woman's prison. A choice Piper made in her past has finally caught up to her and she ends up in a women's prison with a 15-month sentence. When someone from that very same past shows up in Litchfield (the prison), Piper has to struggle to keep it together while also keeping her fiance, who is patiently waiting for her release, happy as well.
11. "Gilmore Girls"
This warm-hearted series follows young mother Lorelai who had her daughter Rory at the age of 16. Rory herself is 16 at the start of the show, but a completely different version of what her mother was: Rory reads constantly, has straight A's, and gets into competitive private schools. A deal with Lorelai's parents leads to "Friday night dinner" every week so that RIchard and Emily can actually get to know their bright granddaughter. Lorelai also has to deal with her personal life in their home town of Stars Hallow, which includes Luke, Kirk, Miss Patty, and many more fun and quirky characters.
12. "Doctor Who"
The Doctor has been saving the world time and time again for the last 60 years. He regenerates every few years or so, and the current one is called Thirteen. The Doctor always has a companion, usually a young lady, and also usually a heart-stealer. This show will take you on a roller coaster of emotions, each and every one taking you further into the world of the Doctor.
Well, that's about it for my list of shows to binge-watch! I hope you all enjoyed reading, and hope you get to check out some of these shows if you haven't seen them.
