Maybe you're going to college in a different state, country, or even just a different town. If you've been living on your own throughout the year, you can definitely understand that going back home consists of some conflicting feelings. These may be a few of the thoughts you have when realizing that summer is right around the corner.
1. "I get to see my friends from high school!"
One of the best parts about going home for the summer is getting to see your old friends. Some of them you've hardly talked to during the year, but you know when you get back it will be like nothing changed.
2. "I have to run into everyone from high school..."
You've definitely contemplated walking everywhere (the grocery store, the mall, your local coffee shop) with a bag over your head so you don't have to create small talk with people you run into from high school.
3. "I get to be with my family!"
There's no better feeling than being able to go home and live with people who you know aren't going to judge you for anything.
4. "How am I going to live with my family for three months?..."
Even though you did live with them for the first eighteen years of your life, the thought of living with them every day for the next two or three months gives you a bit of anxiety.
5. "I'm so glad to not be in school anymore!"
No more homework, no more group projects, no more late nights spent cramming for tests...what could be better?
6. "I'm really going to miss my friends from school..."
Three months at home means three months away from school which means three months away from your closest friends.
7. "I'll get home cooked food!"
You no longer have to scrounge the fridge for leftovers or eat mac n' cheese for the fourth day in a row. Instead, you can get real, good, home cooked food.
8. "I better start eating healthier."
During the school year you probably eat out a lot more than you do back at home given the fact that you have to get all of your own meals. Coming back home means that you have to break that habit and start eating real food.
9. "I can't wait to sleep in my own bed!"
Even if you have a nice bed to sleep in during the year, it's not your bed. Realizing that you get to return to your comfy, cozy childhood bed is rather satisfying.
10. "This means I'm going to have to move all of my stuff...yet again."
Going back and forth from home to college is nice, but moving your stuff over and over again is the biggest pain in the world. It also means you have to come to terms with the fact that you will lose at lease one item during every move.
11. "I can't wait to have free time."
Going home for the summer means time for traveling, enjoying the sun, spending time with friends and not having to think about anything school-related.
12. "I'm going to have to work...a lot."
Coming to the realization that most of your time is not actually going to be spent on the beach is a little disheartening.
