Do you remember growing up how you thought you knew everything? I remember how much I thought I knew, when in reality I knew nothing at all. There are some things we all learned growing up but didn't realize until looking back on it.
1. Your parents were always right.
As much as you hated to hear it, mom and dad were right. They were right about the friend they thought was a bad influence on you or the relationship they didn’t think was going to work out. When they gave you the advice you didn’t want to hear, you disregarded it only to find out that they were right- they never steered you wrong.
2. The break up that feels like the end of the world- you won’t remember in a month.
That one person who broke your heart in high school felt like the end of the world. You said you were in love and you were never going to get over it. Truth is, you got over it a lot quicker than you expected and wasted too many tears on someone who didn’t matter.
3. Nothing worth having comes easy.
If it’s easy, you won’t appreciate it as much. The things you work hard for in life, believe it or not, are the things that you value the most.
4. Mistakes are part of life.
You are going to make mistakes. It’s part of the learning experience. Sometimes you learn by messing up- and that’s okay.
5. Take pictures, lots of pictures.
Take lots of pictures because that may be the only memory you have left of something. Before you know it- that special moment or special person may be gone and that selfie might be the only thing you have to remember that day by.
6. Money doesn’t actually matter.
Don’t spend your time so consumed with the cost of things. Treat yourself once in awhile and worry less about the cheaper options.
7. It doesn’t matter if someone doesn’t like you.
So many people will come and go. Remember that girl who didn’t like you in high school? Yeah, me either, because after high school, you won’t see half of those people again anyway.
8. Family is first.
Also, don’t forget your family. The time you ditched your dad to go out with all your friends actually hurt him more than you thought. Besides, a year later you weren’t friends with any of those people anymore, but guess what? Your dad was still there for you.
9. It’s okay to be different.
Don’t try so hard to fit in. Your unique and individual personality will stand out to others.
10. The little things mean the most.
That time you complimented someone unexpectedly or randomly paid for a stranger’s coffee behind you in line; those were the times that people have smiled most about.
11. Life can change at any second and so can you.
Life throws you curveballs. You have a path set out and something happens to turn your life completely upside down. Your life can change in the blink of an eye, and you will change too.
12. Time flies.
Time goes by quickly, so enjoy it.
