12 Things You Know If You Are Graduating This Year
Gabby Silberman

1. You are in complete denial that you are graduating.

No. This isn't happening. I'm staying in college forever. The real world doesn't exist.

2. You hate when other people bring it up.

"Aren't you graduating this year?" No, I'm not. You must have the wrong person. Mentioning the word graduation is nauseating. Don't do it. The word shouldn't exist.

3. You are a complete mess when it comes to your future.

You literally have no idea what you are doing with your life. The possibilities are endless.

4. You question all of your abilities.

The thought of doing taxes makes you cringe. How does one even write a check let alone do taxes? Am I going to be able to cook? Is microwavable food still acceptable?

5. You question the possibility of getting a well-paying job.

You pray every day you will get an admirable salary because you only have $5 in your bank account. You contemplate if your parents will still support after you graduate. Maybe if you ask nicely.

6. There is a high probability you will move back home.

You will do anything to save money, even if that means moving back in with the folks.

7. Everyone tries to tell you what to do with your life.

You are tired of hearing everyone else tell you what to do with your life. It's your life and your decision. End of story.

8. Tailgate season is over.

Football season is over, which means tailgate season is over. No more standing in the stadium for ours watching your favorite team play. You now have a severe fear of missing out on all of your favorite college things.

9. The real world is just around the corner.

Right before you know it or except in graduation will be here. The real world is just standing outside of your door waiting to come in.

10. When the time comes you'll be an emotional wreck.

Can I just be a super senior? *cue the tears* I don't want to leave.

11. It's time to start applying for internships, jobs, and graduate school.

It's time to try and get your life together (key word try). It's time to whip out the resume and realize "what have I been doing the past four years of my life".

12. You are grateful for your entire collegiate experience.

You know that this has been one of the best, craziest, and most life changing experiences you have had. You are going to miss every single part of it. It has helped shape you into the person you are today and you wouldn't trade your collegiate experience for the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
