Each year, at the start of the summer, I find some strange motivation within me to clean my entire bedroom. A lot of stuff accumulates over the period of a year, and some of the junk laying around in the nooks and crannies of a bedroom has been there for a number of years. Junk or not, these items are true treasures. Here are 12 random things you find while cleaning your room.

1. A Note-to-Self

You’ll find random reminders that you wrote yourself years ago, like to record your favorite TV show or to do your chores before Mom and Dad asked too many times.

2. Money

The best type of find! Whether it’s the $50 you got from your uncle for your birthday last year or 37 cents in an old change purse, you feel as if you struck gold.

3. An Old Cell Phone

There’s nothing like revisiting a vintage flip phone from 2006!

4. Trophies

These symbols of success from your old hobbies seemed like such great accomplishments at the time, but now they’re just collecting dust.

5. A Book about Chastity

You’ve had it piled in your room since your church gave them out to teenagers when they were still pushing you to save yourself for marriage.

6. Water Bottles

They’re cluttered all over your floor, and you somehow ignore them until you clean your room and have garbage bags full of them.

7. Old Photos

Coming across old photos makes for the perfect opportunity to take a cleaning break and reminisce on sweet memories and the poor fashion choices of your youth.

8. Dog Toys

There’s always a lone tennis ball or chew toy that the dog forgot about in your room. He has a thousand other toys – he didn’t miss that one.

9. Paint-Your-Own Pottery

You thought it was a masterpiece when you made it at a friend’s seventh birthday party. Today, some eccentric art studios might just consider it to be true art.

10. Chargers

They've been shoved and tangled in a drawer for about ten years now, and they're each from an old cell phone.

11. A Disposable Camera

You obviously forgot to get it developed way back in the late 90s.

12. CDs

It's the digital age - people don’t even use these anymore. You probably found an old, battery-powered portable CD player to go along with your CD collection.

Although cleaning and organizing your bedroom can be a tedious task, finding random treasures makes the experience more entertaining than not. Plus, after binge cleaning, you have an organized, clutter-free room to enjoy until the next time it gets too messy to live in – which will probably only take a few weeks.
