12 Things That Happen When Your Floormates Are Your Best Friends

Honestly, let's all admit it. Living in a communal style dorm isn't the best, but with amazing floor mates as your best friends, it isn't all so tough.

1. You literally can never be bored with your life.

It doesn't matter whether or not it's eight PM on a Friday night, noon on a Wednesday, or four AM on a Sunday morning. You can always count on somebody to be awake and willing to spend time with you, whether it's a Netflix binge night, a lunch date, or a late night heart to heart.

2. All together, you guys make one fully functioning adult.

Don't know how to download Microsoft onto your laptop? It's fine, somebody down the hall does. Scared of killing that cockroach in your dorm? Don't worry about it, the girl who lives next door isn't afraid of bugs. Accidentally spilled wine on your brand new white pants? It's cool, somebody else knows how to properly bleach clothes!

3. You didn't even know so many inside jokes could possibly exist.

People from other floors think you're completely insane. Your Instagram captions make no sense, and your tweets are starting to sound like the thoughts of a maniac. You can't seem to go five minutes without looking at your friends and laughing hysterically.

4. You share everything.

Bathrooms, laundry sheets, snacks, blankets, vacuums, silly stories, boys....the list is endless.

5. Boundaries? What are those?

It's pretty easy to get close to the people you live with, especially when you have to share a bathroom. Sometimes you just have to to be understanding when your friends walk in on you dancing in your underwear alone in your room.

6. They have become the greatest support system in the world.

We've all been there. Whether it's crying over broken hearts or throwing up in the bathroom (okay, maybe we haven't ALL been there), some days you find yourself needing love and support from your friends around you, and some days you find yourself giving some much needed tender loving care to your best friends. Oh, and by the way, you're totally right: they DON'T deserve that jerk from the other floor.

7. You take care of one another.

Somehow, everyone on the floor becomes your mom. You find yourself frantically calling your friends when it's three AM and they're not home yet. You yell at them for skipping class, you force them to finish writing that essay, you scold them for wanting to head to the bar on a Sunday night, and vice versa. But in the end, you know it comes from a place of love.

8. Your phone is constantly blowing up with messages from them, even when you're all sitting in the same room.

9. Your significant other must seek the approval of the floor.

Let's be real here. Your friends know you better than you know yourself sometimes. They want what's best for you. Your significant other better be good enough for your floor mates, or else they're definitely not good enough for you.

10. You know all the weird, random, and personal facts about everybody on the floor.

Of course I know the exact name of every single one of your ex-girlfriends, the birthday of your best friend from home, and your all time favorite songs!

11. You get jealous when you see that somebody on the floor is hanging out with other people.

"Give me attention! Love me!" -An actual quote from my roommate.

12. You look around and realize that these people aren't just your friends, but that you consider them your family, and that you would do absolutely anything for all of them.

Cherish the people you live with. College is fleeting, and someday you'll be begging to be living with 44 of your closest friends again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
